clemsonhatch Wrote:I don't left foot brake in cars. I wouldn't say it can save you seconds auto-xing or on track. It's a touchy skill and I'm faster without it.

If you are in control of the car, hit your breaking points, are on line and accelerate out of the turn that will save seconds.

Guess I exagerated saying seconds. 10ths of a second on autox then. Maybe a second at a track. I know you're THE advocate of smooth = fast.

It's more about knowing the limit and riding the edge of it, being smooth makes it easier. I like to get my breaking done in a straight line if possible and control the car with the gas peddle on corner exit. No need to left foot break. Of all the top drivers I've asked it's about a 50/50 split.

To answer the question of this thread for me is I just love to drive just about anything, anywhere, anyhow it releases frustration for me. I miss the days of autoxing at Clemson cause it gave me a place that was safe to drive like I wanted to without going to jail. Racing against some of the coolest people I've ever met, the races were usually really close making it that much more fun. The atmosphere at our autoxes was chill and everyone had a blast. Dodging big trees and flying by the police station sometimes sideways, I wish everyone could experience that. Plus it was super cheap and less than a mile from my apartment perfect for a student or anyone to get a taste of the sport. Ahhh maybe some day when they repave the lot we can petition to get rid of the speed humps and race there again...I'm a dreamer.

it took me a good three months to get proficient at performing the heel-toe. and from my limited racing experience, i've found that it is much easier to heel-toe when you're driving harder. your feet are better placed when you're nailing the brakes.

also, lightweight flywheels are horrible to get used to. even in my extremely underpowered MG the revs drop before i can get complete the shift. i have to hold my foot on the gas the entire time.

sorry for ranting. this is just something i can relate to.

^^^ We'll get there Marc. Someway somehow. We do have autoxs though.

Meh, as Marc will say, in my car the hardest thing for me to do is actually modulate the freakin' brakes. My Hawk HP Plus pads tend to be on/off and nothing in between. It'll be a long time before I start worrying about left foot braking.

The reason most of hte top drivers do it is because they don't have a clutch (usually). Those high dollar cars are sequential. other wise, i think it would be very hard to left foot brake while downshifting. maybe switching to left foot braking once in the proper cornering gear, but otherwise...

as for me, I'm still trying to get the power-on drift down...Just kidding, i can get her sideways all day long when the tire pressures are set up right.
