Would Anyone be down for a Poker Run?

Would Anyone be down for a Poker Run?
Ok, for those of you who haven't done one, poker runs are hella fun. For the uninitiated among us, a poker run is a non-timed driving event where you drive from point to point (you also collect playing cards and get the best poker hand).

The great part is there is absolutely no value to breaking any traffic laws. Additionally, since outright speed is of no benefit, any kind of car can compete, so it doesn't matter if you have 100whp or 500whp.

My idea is this: Everyone pays $5-10 to enter, and the money will go towards prizes of some sort (that can be discussed later), or the money can go to a charitable cause (maybe that could get us a little publicity). The event would probably take at least a few hours, but they are REALLY fun to go on. The event would be run around the more scenic places of outlying areas of Clemson. After the conclusion of the event, we could all go get food somewhere and determine the winners.

The more cars the better, and I think this would be a blast. The other great thing is that since we're utilizing public roads, there's no paper work or bureaucratic bullshit to go through. We could just organize it amongst ourselves and go for it.

Is anyone down for something like this?

Sounds like fun! We could use local public places to hold the card distribution, have set times and a decent amount of traveling

Bet we could get some local shops to assist and have prizes?

Start from the p-3 lot, head to anderson, then to greenville, easley, central, seneca and then back to campus not crossing the same road twice.

Need 5 locations.

p-3 start
anderson theatre by ww as point 1
central walmart as point 2
daniel highschool as point 3
Bloom as point 4
p-3 as finish

Um, yeah. You = fail. We would have people at each station to distribute the cards. Reason wed pick places with larger parking lots as opposed to say Mcdonalds.

Seems very similar to a road rally that I did when my brither first got his WRX back in the day. It was fun. Well look into it.

I have run a num ber of these (2 on motorcycle) and set up 1 for a Sports car Club. If you would like help let me know.

There are several types of rallyes that are NOT technical TSD ... where you follow tulip maps, landmark clues, chalk lines or even vague hints. Fun to drive or navigate, great to take your girlfriend but can end in divorce for married couples. Lol

There are some great old raods between Clemson and Greenville in Pickens... ran a lot of them bakc through there. My favorite was a night rally... what a blast. Start at 9 over at 1... meet up at a all night eatery.

Glad to see the interest in getting together and enjoying cars... even without competition. That is an important part of what Clemson Club has always been about.

Thats why you schedule the lots only to be open for about 30 minutes max, with over lapping times so that you minimize the event time. Shoudlnt take more the .5hr to make it from a single point to the next.

or you preset with a box that has the next clue in it.

or you have the clues take you on a roundabout route to the next place. So that the watchers can skip ahead easily.

I would for sure be down for this.

Only issue i see if the car distribution. Shouldnt be much of a problem though just gotta find someone at each location that is willing to distribute or just leave a deck of cards at each location and go on honor policy on taking the top card.

Or svensko could just drive to each place before everyone else and give out the cards.

Then he could finally be useful roll

Ted, you're exactly right, this would be a great event for people to bring their GF's to, or anyone who they might want to introduce to the car hobby. I'm willing to set this up, and I'd like to get the ball rolling, because I have a feeling this is going to take longer than I really expect to organize.
