Would Anyone be down for a Poker Run?

Why not leaving it as a straight up car event? me and chris talked breifly about this today. The food jesture while nice is beyond what this type thing was thought of. I mean if yall wanna stop and eat be my guest. But we should atleast get the first one planned, and get all the bugs worked out before adding more mayheim into the mix. Point is the logistics of this are already more than most want to do by them selves. Them you try to please everyone by bringing the right kind of food, then the clean up. Not to mention the hassles of carrying it around.

I vote to leave it at just a rally/poker run. Get this one planned then on the next one we wil be pros so we can squeeze more events into the mix

Although i do some more of that fine fine cooking that was provided for us on one of the tuesday night things. That food was awesome.

I think the food idea was going to be pretty basic. hot dog, hamburgers, soda, water, chips, and I was going to bake some homemade cornbread (the kind at Thanksgiving). I'm pretty sure people will inclined to stay at the event longer if they aren't hungry and don't have to leave to get food. Besides, we managed to feed people at the car show and get it cleaned up just fine. I'm willing to use my car to haul stuff around if we decide to try it.

haha okay just saying maybe at like the end or the begging not in the middle of the run. Just voicing what me and a couple other spoke of.

I haven't done much planning for this, because I have been super-busy with school, but I'm going to try and make some head way on this over the weekend.

The Atlanta SCCA solo schedule was just released. Looks like they are having a Test & Tune and points event this same weekend. Only having limited chances to get seat time in the ST civic before Nationals this year I will not be able to make the poker run Sad

I did find this on the ATL website that you might be able to use:

atlantamx3 Wrote:Has anyone ever been involved in a Road Rally? I was reading abut them in GRM a few years back and they look /sound like fun.

Quote:Two or more people, in ordinary cars, on regular roads, within the legal speed limit, make up a rally team. The goal is to drive on time - not early or late. Each team needs a wristwatch set to match rally time; something to write on and write with. For night rallies a flashlight or other interior lights are needed to read instructions.

Cars start at one minute intervals. The first section of the rally allows you to compare your mileage to the rallymasters'. If you have a trip odometer in your car you can zero it at the start. You will have a specified amount of time to reach the Official Mileage Point. Wait there until the given time has elapsed, then leave, following the directions given and travel at the specified speed. Timing controls will be found at various locations along the route.

Since the Rallymaster knows how fast you were supposed to travel, and how far you went, we calculate an exact time when you should arrive at the control. The control crew times you with a very accurate clock when you arrive. Your score is the difference between when you should have arrived and when you did arrive. Points are given for being early or late. This is a contest of precision, not a race. If you are late at one control, you can not make up for it by being early at the next. The score for each leg is separate. All legs are totaled and the lowest score wins.

As with any sport, it takes practice to get very good scores. Regardless of whether you get very good scores, or just scores, rallying is a lot of fun if you like to spend time in your car, see some scenery and spend time with congenial people.

Events usually end at a spot where munchies & beverages are available. You can join the rest of us in discussing how the event went and how you did, while we wait for scores to be calculated and trophies to be awarded.

No Experience Required
A car rally is contested by a two person team within the legal speed limit, in ordinary cars, on regular roads. The challenge is to drive on time, not early or late (it's not a race).

Add cards at each stop and you have a Poker Rally.

And as the one planning, you do have a bit more say in what actually happens... (Dustin wins one) lol

And id be down for helping to plan whenever. Might just do it on the meet on Tuesday.

My parents have done road rallys and they had fun. I'd be down for a road rally but I'd still be driving the STi.
