I is teh suck.
Yeah,
weather that i normally drove teh mazda in fine. and teh z? it is teh defeated. I couldnt get out of my little side road onto one of the main thoroughfairs. It didnt snow enough for them to plow. So i got the shaft. My boss couldnt stop laughing when i called to tell him, i may be late. convo: me "eric, im going to be late man" Him " why?...." me "um, i have NO traction. Super wide summer tires" Him *starting to try smother laughter* "you know your not going to live this down right?" me "I know, at idle the tires just spin" him "steve offered to pick you up" me "kool" him *laughing hard, and i can hear more laughter outside his office* "Just head on in when you can" Its 20 outside and the roads arent clearing. I may be heading to work at lunch time today. Chris I REALLY REALLY need you to send those wheels soon man. Tires should be here by friday. The thought of needing something other than summer tires up north didn't cross your mind before this?

Finally at work. I got a standing ovation when i got here.
I have been searching for a winter beater for over a month. So yeah it did cross my mind. The mazda was not selling so i didnt have the liquid assets to extend myself that far. Now that it is sold I found after testing driving several trucks that they were all crap and that i couldnt afford 4wd. Also that the 4wd was not engaged all the time. I ordered tires from tire rack sunday. Chris is sending me a set of stocker 17's to put them on. Main roads and bridges were fine. Sumbitches decided not to clear my road and I tried to leave after it had gotten packed down. My own fault, but still damn funny. (see some of us can laugh at ourselves.) These 19x10's are gorgeous, but damn they dont grip in packed snow at all. I should be winter geared soon. I was told that it never sticks in november by my coworkers. I had been fine when it just snowed a bit (been doing that for two weeks). But we got 4 inches dumped last night. The worst was when the old lady in a POS drove by laughing. 2010 Chevy Silverado 5.3l Crew Cab. 2012 Mustang V6 Missed but not forgotten: 2006 350z Track. 1987 Porsche 944S. 1994 Geo Prizm. |

I love driving in the snow, it was fun drifting the 4x4 rental over the Andes a few months ago
It was crazy coming from dumping tropical rain in the jungle and watching change to sleet then dumping snow the higher you climbed. We finally got over the clouds and it was clear and cold, from extreme hot and wet to the moon like vegetationless landscapes of the upper Andes.Hope you get your tires or a winter beater soon. 1993 Civic Hatch in TDC's hands - waiting on my parts that I paid for. 2005 Accord Hybrid 2009 Civic Si Sedan |

straight four Wrote:Now that it is sold I found after testing driving several trucks that they were all crap and that i couldnt afford 4wd. Also that the 4wd was not engaged all the time. You realize that the "real" 4wd systems are the part-time ones, right? Granted, an AWD system has advantages as well. Seems to me you'd want something simple like an old 4x4 Cherokee (5sp like mine is 4wd, the automatics had a fulltime system with a viscous center diff) with aggressive snow tires, and maybe the addition of some sort of limited slip or locker diff. Just realize that none of it makes you 100% safe. My dumb ass had to leave my Jeep in my front yard because I made it safely all the way home during some slush we had last "winter" only to approach my driveway (yard slopes down from my driveway) at a normal speed. yeah so tires are here.
Somehow ordered some odd sized tires. HOping that they are within 1% of the factory difference. or else my traction control is going to go nuts. also it snowed 6 inches friday morning. I couldnt get to work again. Walked instead. Distance? 4.4 Miles Time? 1 hr 20 min. temp? 20F (w/o wind chill.)
