Drag Race and Free Ride
Im new to the Clesmon SCC. I dirve a 1998 BMW 328i convertible which has been transfored into a M3 will all m3 parts. I was just wanting to get some fun and crazy ideas on simple things that people might want to do.

Just spitting out ideas some may be good some may be bad but:

Maybe a pennie, nickel, and dime drage race were you make bets on whos car is faster but you cant bet over $1. It would be a meet and greet and show off and race time.

Get some people that are willing to go to Deals Gap Drive that and come back. it would be a one day thing.

Have a car show type thing were we bring all the cars and show them off, almost like the cookout that yall had early on.

Just somethings that would get people out and doing things.

I know that yall are trying to do yalls best in trying to get an autocross set up. but these are some simple things that dont require their authority. I also like the ideas of doing things for charitys to show that not all car racers are idiots.

RE: Drag Race and Free Ride
Welcome! Have you autox'd with us before? I remember a 3er convertible with a nice exhaust... Corsa I think?

Anyway... where do we drag race? We go to Atlanta Dragway from time to time and I'm sure we could make it out to Ware Shoals or an 1/8th mile track sometime, otherwise... no.

We can have some friends go see sights sometimes but we have to be careful about making "scenic drives" official club events. You can fill in the blanks about typical goings-on on such trips. We try to keep negative publicity to a minimum Wink

I didn't make it to the cookout so I don't know what that was like, but with the results that we've gotten from car shows that we put huge amounts of effort into, it's doubtful we'll put on anything but a casual get together to check out each others' rides without months of planning and hard work put into it beforehand.

If you've got ideas for formal or informal events, we'd love to hear them. If you want to swing by Deals Gap, post up that you're going and you can probably get some people to join you. We can put another cookout together, that would actually be a lot of fun...

Basically, hang out online long enough and throw out enough hooks and eventually something will catch!

Hi. I like V8s.

Everyone knows blue cars are the fastest.

Ya i went to the last auto-x and thats me with the corsa. Ya all my idea were ment to be easy i dont want to have a super hard event to put on that wouldnt be so cool with the officers. I totaly get what your saying about the "scenic drives". i have never been to a drag stip i was pitching and idea that might snowball.

what about a go cart race. go to a go cart track and have a race. i dont know of any but yall probaly do for sure.

and explain what you mean by formal events

RE: Drag Race and Free Ride
The drag strip is a lot of fun, but we can't do anything with that till they start having their test and tunes again and the last time we checked i don't think they start till march.

The difference between formal and informal events is a formal event is something that the club hosts like the auto crosses or the toys for tots go-karting we did. An informal event is a "scenic drive" where we are going and doing something as a group of friends and the club is not in any way apart of it.

RE: Drag Race and Free Ride
you'd have to bet who wins, not who is the fastest. reaction time would play a role.
if not, after a few bets, you'd know which cars are faster.

RE: Drag Race and Free Ride
I think y'all should definitely look into getting another cookout going. That was one of the best events we had my last year, we did it early so that people could get to know each other in a setting other than a meeting.

As for keeping up online...this forum has been dead for the past 3 months, so whats the point of checking it if nothing goes on? I don't know what happened but it seems the officers are too worked up over not being able to do autocrosses that they cannot come up with any other ideas for things the club can do. We had a lot of momentum going...kinda sucks to see it fizzle like this.

It doesn't have to be officers that come up with events or cool ideas, current club members need to speak up (like you are doing in this thread) and get some damn interest going again. This is ridiculous, nobody is too busy to put together a small cookout!

I think you nailed what I was trying to get at. I was trying to get some people to start thing of cool things to do. I understand the informal and formal thing now(thanks). Autocrosses are fun by its not all that can be done in a club. So yal speak up and throw out some ideas on what to do and I would think someone would help you out on this thread.
