RE: Runaway cars!
this was day 2 of my driver's ed class... but good refresher.

I am kinda Sad that stupid drivers out there are going to force auto makers into doing the "brakes kills throttle" thing, no more left foot braking and burnouts for us enthusiasts...

I'm sure it'll be on the Camry before it'll be on a Mustang, but I'm sure that by the time it makes its way to the Mustang there will be a way to get around it.

RE: Runaway cars!
It is probably already on the mustang. My 2 has it. After hitting the brake for about 2 seconds it cuts all throttle. It is still enough to left foot brake.

Does the Porrrrrrsche have it?

The Pontiac doesn't. Cable-connected throttle body ftw.

Btw, it's called line lock.

With bigger-than-GTO tires out back they won't be losing traction much with stock power anyway Tongue

But to answer your question, no idea.

RE: Runaway cars!
I was riding with a friend in his 580rwhp cobra once and the throttle got stuck wide open. He had an aftermarket cold air intake and throttle body, and the outside of the butterfly valve (where the cable connects to the throttle body) got stuck under a hose clamp on the intake. That was an exciting ride to 8000rpm before clutch in + cut ignition. He sold that intake shortly after.

Keep in mind if you shut the car all the way off, it also locks the steering wheel.

RE: Runaway cars!
clutch pedal ftw.

Not saying I'd catch it for sure but wouldn't you think you'd notice the clearance between the cable connect and whatever else might be close?

Well on cable throttle bodies there is a small L shaped piece that sticks out, that hits a stop when the throttle is all the way closed (some let you adjust the stop to adjust idle speed). This L piece is what got stuck to the bolt of the hose clamp - if the clamp was rotated it wouldn't have gotten stuck, and it's not something you'd really notice unless you open it full throttle by hand.

RE: Runaway cars!
Plus since he was driving it the engine might have rotated to where it might get caught. Not something you would notice by just looking.

RE: Runaway cars!
Actually I thought the same thing, but after being around it for a while. I can't think of a reason why cable is better. There are a lot of benefits to electronic.

RE: Runaway cars!
I know the significant difference between the LS1 TB and the LS2 (besides the LS1 being cable-actuated and the LS2 being electronic) is that baseline idle airflow in the LS1 tb is drawn through a small hole in the bottom half of the butterfly and on the LS2 it's drawn by having the plate rotated slightly past full closed. People have freemodded the LS2 tb by rotating the plate in the butterfly valve slightly so that full closed is actually full closed and then drilling a small hole à la the LS1 tb, then WOT is just a little more open, nothing uncompensated for by the MAF. Reasoning behind the free mod (and a source of complaint for those who leave it alone) is that when you touch the throttle from idle the butterfly valve has to go *through* full closed in order to open more.

I'm not sure how this relates to cable/electronic throttle bodies, or if it even does. Does it? I'm thinking maybe that setup allows the electronic to adjust idle airflow on its own a little more.

With a cruise control/traction control module sitting in the middle of the cable, are they really that different? Just seems to me that an electronic would glitch sooner to me.
