Automotive Engineering (CU-ICAR) Presentation
If you're interested in Automotive Engineering, you should come to this week's Clemson ASME meeting on Tuesday, Nov 15 at 7pm in 132 Fluor Daniel. Dinner will be provided.
The graduate program in Automotive Engineering at Clemson University's ICAR campus is designed to produce technical leaders in innovation that can adapt to changing demands in a global environment. They will be presenting an overview of the program and the Deep Orange project where students design a car intended for mass production from scratch, then build and test a functional prototype. We'll also be discussing an upcoming tour at GE Energy, an upcoming design competition sponsored by GE, auto-crossing the LeMons 240SX at the next CSCC auto-cross and the next LeMons workday.Hope to see you there! RE: Automotive Engineering (CU-ICAR) Presentation
Each class that enters has their own Deep Orange Project that the entire class is responsible for and the course projects are focused on. For example, the final project in your suspensions class will be designing the suspension for the Deep Orange Project.
The focus of each project shifts each year, Deep Orange 1 was a 1-series 5 door that had been adapted to be a range extended electric car (think Chevy Volt) and was unveiled at SEMA 2010. Check out this video to see Deep Orange 1. I think Deep Orange 2 was based on the original, but focused on interior ergonomics and new seating configurations. It was unveiled a few weeks ago at SEMA 2011. I've heard rumors that Deep Orange 3 is sponsored by Mazda.... My other car is a LeMon ![]() clemson.edu/~asme |
