FS: 1999 Miata track car
My Miata is officially available for sale. I also have for sale:
  • one set 15×7 +25, 13 lb each satin black D-Force wheels, used with a set of Nitto NT-01 tires mounted (one weekend at VIR on them) -- asking $750
  • an open deck trailer -- asking $1,000

I'm asking $10,000 for the Miata. I'm open to reasonable offers.

Overview

I became the third owner of this Miata in the fall of 2006. At that point the car was a daily driver / autocross car in SCCA CSP autocross class. It was extremely competitive and — had I been motivated enough to go to all points events — could have trophied at the regional level or possibly higher for the season. I autocrossed the car from 2006 through 2009 before starting to track it. It has since done about six HPDE events. The car has an Emerald Green Mica body, silver hardtop, and white interior. The previous owner put in a new motor at 100k miles (body now has 140k miles). The car will come with Rota Circuit-8 15″ wheels with fairly used Dunlop Z1 Star Spec tires in 205/50-15.

The Good:

The car drives and handles great. The car is very predictable and inspires confidence when driving. The transmission shifts well and the engine pulls as well as you would expect a Miata to do. Additionally, the check engine light is still present and functions, but is not lit.

The Bad:

The body is not perfect – the car has lightly contacted tire walls twice. As such, the body has slight dents, but nothing major. The tires on the car need replacement.

Modifications:

Suspension / Brakes:

Tein SS 1-way adjustable coil overs (put on by the previous owner — owner #2)
Super Poly polyurethane bushings at all 22 points in the A-Arms
Racing Beat front sway bar, no rear bar on the car (stock rear bar included with purchase)
Carbotech XP10 and XP8 brake pads in the front and rear (respectively)
Stock power steering still connected

Engine / Exhaust:
Lightweight flywheel (not sure of weight / brand, put on by owner #2)
Monsterflow cold air intake. Stock intake included with sale.
Racing Beat 4-to-1 exhaust header. Stock included with sale.
Roadster Sport cat-back exhaust with high flow cat mid-pipe
Factory limited slip differential

LOL, I've got more than that in the driver's seat alone. Tongue

I have to ask why you are selling. What happened to the whole Spec Miata thing?

RE: FS: 1999 Miata track car
My wife and I are planning to buy a house within the next year and given our income and where we want to live there's just no way we can afford a place with enough space for all the vehicles and trailer. I don't have any place nearby I can store it, so I won't be able to keep it after we get the house. I know it's still close to a year away, but I don't know how long it'll take to sell, so I'm listing it now.

Damn dude, thats a bummer. I mean, the whole married and getting a house thing is awesome, but I know how much you've put into this car and what you wanted to do with it. GLWS, I doubt you'll have many problems, it's a well-done machine.

I couldn't agree more on this. Everything I've done to this car I've done with two main principles (though really they are pretty similar):
  1. Don't skimp out on safety gear
  2. If you're going to so something, do it right the first time.

The cage and seat I have are the best my money could buy. Yes, they each cost more that other options, but my engineering opinion is that they are far better and safer.

Not to mention the custom work I did over the summer
  • cable I made to plug into a GoPro so the camera stays charged and I can start / stop the camera from a button on the dash
  • the master kill switch pull cable on the dash to activate the master kill switch (in a location where I can't reach from driver seat)
  • the car is setup to run a catless exhaust without throwing a CEL, so the Check Engine light will still light up and let you know if some other problem pops up
  • installing heat shielding in the transmission tunnel to help cut down on the hot foot (something that happens in every track Miata due to the exhaust routing)

Believe me, I wish I could keep it. I've put more time and money into this car than I can remember. It handles phenomenally and is a joy to drive "in anger." This is my favorite car I've ever had, even more so than my STi.

RE: FS: 1999 Miata track car
I've had several people contact me about the trailer, but it's not for sale until the Miata sells. If I sell the trailer before the Miata I won't have a way to transport the car to a potential buyer (or to any events I'd like to go to before it sells). If the buyer of the Miata doesn't want the trailer, it's fair game to anyone at that point.

Same goes for the wheels & tires, but those are purely so I have them for any event I want to go to.
