RE: F1 in US
Awesome! It looks like the track is finished. Leave it to us Americans to have the only dirt track built for F1, yet not have a US F1 team.

I haven't paid too much attention to Austin, but the NJ street course they just announced looks incredible.

street courses = yawn typically. Color me very much not excited until we see more than a 2d view, and even then with all the NIMBYs in that area I wish them luck in actually getting the race approved and held.
And what country is going to lose its date to allow the NJ one to happen anyway? ![]() ex-CSCC President, Vice President and Secretary, member 2001-2006 "Zoom Zoom Zoom - On any given weekend more Mazdas make optimistic pass attempts than any other brand!" |

Turkey was already mad after they were fined $5 Million for violating a "political neutrality " clause by allowing a questionable political figure award a trophy at the podium in 2006. Bernie has a history of being the P.T. Barnum of F1 without the brains to pull it off. Somehow... F1 survives on the passion of the world's fans in spite of it's leaders. Examples? 1. Max Mosely- President of FIA (governing body of F1) ... 2008 caught on film with 5 hookers dressed in Nazi garb.... 2. Jean Marie Balestra - Past President of FIA)... who was a member of the French SS and after WWII claimed he was a double agent... 3. Bernie Ecclestone - President and CEO of F1 who said of Danica Patrick in 2005 "You know I've got one of those wonderful ideas ... women should be dressed in white like all the other domestic appliances." and in 2009 Times interview, he stated "terrible to say this I suppose, but apart from the fact that Hitler got taken away and persuaded to do things that I have no idea whether he wanted to do or not, he was in the way that he could command a lot of people able to get things done." He also said that his friend of 40 years Max Mosley, the son of British fascist leader Oswald Mosley, "would do a super job" as Prime Minister of England and added "I don’t think his background would be a problem." Just my opinion... ; ) Ted E. Bayer - Hillclimbing Understeer is when you hit the mountain with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the mountain with the rear of the car. Austin's less than 3 hours from home... But if I were to watch a race there it'd be V8 Supercars. Just sayin' Hi. I like V8s. It's a sleeper.Everyone knows blue cars are the fastest. CSCC Prez 2012-13 (or til the end of the world) |

Meh, it has its positives and negatives. I went to the inagural Baltimore grand prix this year for Indy and it was f'in awesome! The sounds echoing throughout the street were amazing and seeing an indy car do 160mph through downtown with nothing but a catch fence seperating you from the car ( I was about 8 feet away from them) was damn cool. However, the parking and crowds were horrendous. I don't think i've ever been in such a crowded situation. Lots of policeman ushering you this way and that way and crazy overpriced, overcrowded bleacher seats, etc. Don't think i'd go again but def worth the experience. I'll def be checking out the F1 race if it does make it to Jersey Clemson 2008 Alum. |

Here's a map for the doubters. It's supposedly got some good elevation change to it. Does not look like a typical street course at all:

RE: F1 in US
I hope hope hope they bring an ALMS race to Austin. I would buy tickets as soon as they were available.
Btw... Circuit of the Americas? Since when has Texas touted anything about Texas as being American? It should be THE Circuit of TEXAS, Y'ALL! I'm going to have to talk to some people, I'm a little embarrassed to be a Texan right now. "Oh yeah, Circuit of the Americas! It's in Texas!" If we have to explain that it's in Texas, it got named wrong. Hi. I like V8s. It's a sleeper.Everyone knows blue cars are the fastest. CSCC Prez 2012-13 (or til the end of the world) |

RE: F1 in US
In Reference to fiveo mention of parking...
Went to Montreal and Hockenheim... wife's parent's live 1 hour from Hockenheim so guess when I like to go see them. ; ) At the F1 race there, we parked in empty fields of grass... walked for 3 miles... saw the race... walked back 3 miles... and sat in car waiting to get out for 1 3/4 hours... and I'd do it again in a skinny minute. There is nothing like a F1 race... the Tivosi flags flying, colors, women, big jumbotrom screens, cars, expositions, food, crowds, the roar. of the engines... fans pouring out on the track to get to podium after the race... absolutely the best. Highly recommend. I can't say what Austin will be like... but this "traveling circus" brings the show with it whatever country they play in. It won;t suck...unless only 3 cars decide to participate... like the LAST F1 in US. ; ( Ted E. RE: F1 in US
I'm pretty excited for Austin. For one, I love the town. I spent a couple weeks there last year and it did not feel like every other Texas town I've been to. I'm gonna try and hit Austin in 2012, and the NJ race in 2013 I hope, although I read that they want EVERYONE at the NJ race to make it to the track using public transport. That just sounds like a bad idea to me.
