Sorry Dave and everyone else, but Parking Services has proven uncooperative yet again. We are trying everything we can, but continue to get the run around. I've got a few aces in the hole yet to play, but in the meantime we are pushing for an event in Anderson and will get that ball going Monday. I'll be contacting them about having an event October the 9th and I'll post up when I know something.

If they are still avoiding you I would say to go to the woman (I can't remember her name) who is under Barker which helped us last time.

Steve,
I know you are doing all you can and we appreciate it. It's easy to get impatient because members want to run and there is that fear that we might lose the ground we have gained.

From past history, (my first autocrosses with CSCC were timed with an hourglass), we got support from the school at times when they got something back. We used cars for parades, for displays, we competed and played up successes in news/rag/etc. so school saw we were positively representing them in at least regional competition, we did driver schools the day before an autocross, we did a float for homecoming one year, etc. We had a presence and contributed to "Clemson" experience.

The years where we have had trouble were (not always but often) when we wanted our money from school and we wanted our lots. One way street.
You know the situation better than anyone else..and we have full confidence in your leadership but look at possibility of finding some value we can bring. I realize out sourced "parking Services" won't gives a rip but when we go over their heads, it would be good to have some successes and examples of contributions in your back pocket. (Good sized member list, pictures of our display this year, plans for "give back" events, pictures and info on CHARITY event last year, etc.) The driver reason for doing "good will" things and charity events should be pure... but it also is part of our image if we TELL THE STORY...

Thanks! Let us know what we can do to help you and our officers.
Ted

P.S. When negotiating with parking services... take Karlye or Leslie with you. ; ) Trust me on this...

^ I agree with all of that. My main pitch to parking services was going to be centered around my plan to do Toys for Tots on the first or second weekend in December again this year. That event was a massive success with only 6 days of build up. I want an entire semester to get that promoted so that we can give 200 toys (yes 200). 10 or 15 of the new guys this year heard about us in High School last year and that is definitely something I want to push out as well. I've got a few friends in high places and I'm saving those card for a last resort, but come hell or high water we will have an event somewhere before October 15th.

If using the Anderson lot is still an option in the time being I am ok with that. I like that lot a lot more. Plus it would buy us some more time with clemson. If we are going to do one at Anderson we need to get the word out now to be able to get people to cover the costs.

I wouldn't leave a meeting without making that clear. How many student orgs did you guys hear about in high school? That is a huge deal, and if they think we can actually sway students toward attending the school we could get some help. The one benefit Clemson cares about is bottom line.

In our experience from past events, it was very important to have at least 3 weeks to advertise and allow for registration, plan, organize insurance coverage etc. I know we all want to have an event asap, but it's also important for the officers to have enough time to set the date and then do all the things in between that and the day of to be successful.

I think at the next autocross, probably in Anderson, you guys should have a petition for everyone to sign and present to them. You need weight behind your movements. Get a petition, print out some flyers and hang them up in the common areas of the main buildings throughout campus. Getting the word out never hurts. These things will be working for you while you sleep.

I wasn't in student body government, but can you guys get them involved and get some leverage? it wouldn't hurt to drop by there and see what they can do. Get creative!

We've gone down that path before...the nice thing about it being students though is, of course, that the members go in and out in a just a few years, so maybe they'd be more helpful by now.
