Polish Mtn. Hillclimb - Aug. 6&7 2011
TJ and I had a great time at Polish Mtn Hillclimb in Flintstone, MD last weekend. NINE hour haul up the event. We were running on older tires but Elvira was running great. 63 participants and wide range of cars from 914-6, to Formula 1000s, Stohrs, Beck Porsche Spyder, Minis, Miatas, Evos, Lotus Elan, Mustangs, Vettes, ... awesome cars. We opened discussions about having a North South Shootout Hillclimb alternating between MD and the Chasing the Dragon Hillclimb in Robbinsville... it would become SCCA's National Championship of Hillclimbing.
Had rain the first day so we took it easy... end of first day, TJ 1st and me second out of 4. Second day, HOT and damp. Tj got faster with each run and after lunch, laid down a time 5 seconds off course record and 7.5 seconds faster than 3rd place. Thunderstorm clouds were looming so we packed up and left early.... pretty proud of a 1-2 finish for Theodore Racing.
Well.. here's a great lesson in racing guys. It's not over until it's over. The thunderstorm blew around the mountain, the course stayed dry and the 3rd place CSP driver laid down ONE run 7.7 seconds faster than he had all weekend and took FIRST... bumping TJ to second and me to Third.
A good set of tires and a dry course... I think TJ can easily take that record. We'll be back... and we'll stay until it's over next time!
Anyway... Clemson Sports Car Club WAS represented in a PHA Hillclimb in Maryland last weekend.

Understeer is when you hit the mountain with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the mountain with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the mountain, torque is how far you move the mountain.

Awesome Ted! Keep it up. I will make it to one of these things someday.

Joy...is not trying to pan a fast moving object at dusk with a point-and shoot...
