Summer Autocross?

RE: Summer Autocross?
I just called Vanessa and got a little more info about the situation with the lots on campus. Most of the lots, including C1 (where our events have been this Spring) is going to get a complete re-paving and the entrance is going to be widened. This is great news for the grip of our tires, but it will make summer autocross more difficult to have happen. Other lots on campus may not have enough space or are being used right now. I'll call her again next week and see if I can get a date on the paving. I'll keep everyone informed when I do. In the meantime, go to SCCA events! Get all the practice you can and help get our club out there. Smile

RE: Summer Autocross?
In the past, when a lot we used was resurfaced, we weren't allowed to run on it for several months (maybe a year?) after the paving. I think it had to do with either insurance or warranty on the fresh asphalt.

That's something that needs to be looked into.

good point^ plus, fresh asphalt is going to be a pain, it will get all over everyone's cars won't it?

RE: Summer Autocross?
might be why there's a "waiting period". fresh asphalt (esp in july/august) tends to be very easy to tear up. even a dual axle trailer turning can scrub up pavement and leave marks/dents. sticky tires and an autocross situation could lead to the creation of a literal groove, not just the racing line.

RE: Summer Autocross?
They should just go ahead and make banked turns.

RE: Summer Autocross?
Called Parking Services and they directed me to this e-mail
Monday, June 20, university facilities staff will begin resurfacing several roads and parking lots around campus. Three main areas must be resurfaced due to deteriorated asphalt. Below are defined areas and scheduled start and completion dates:

Area 1, closed June 20-July 8: Press Road between Centennial Boulevard and Perimeter Road.

Area 2, closed July 5-Aug. 5: Avenue of Champions and C-07 parking lot (located directly north of Memorial Stadium) between Williamson Road and Perimeter Road.

Area 3, closed July 5-29: C-01/R-05 parking lot and Zeta Theta Street (large parking lot southwest of Lightsey Bridge Apartments)

Areas will be barricaded off on start dates with completion time dependent on weather. Parking will be allowed in P-03 throughout duration of these projects. There will also be five temporary handicap parking spaces available in C-09 parking lot (east of Littlejohn Coliseum).

Sorry folks, but I don't believe that we will be able to have an event this summer. Sad They said that the remaining lots are all needed to park the camp and summer school folks. On the bright side, we'll have a fresh lot in the fall Smile

If they are going to pave the lot west of Death Valley, get them to tear out the stupid speed bumps.
