CMP Karting | April 9th UPDATE W/REGISTRATION
Who needs Victory Lane when you can do this?

I worked at CMP for a while and still hang around when I'm home and I can get a deal for us to rent the track IF THERE IS ENOUGH INTEREST. If we get more than 12 people, we can use the ENTIRE .7 mile course. The pricing is pretty fixed, so the more people we get, the more our cost per person goes down. Otherwise, we'll be relegated to the rental area, which is the heart shaped track created by turns 11-16.

The karts are Italian-built Birel models with large 9 HP Honda engines and go around 55 MPH at the top end, which is scary (or awesome if you are insane like me Smile ) in something with no seat belts or any restraints. Helmets and neck braces are all provided and all you need to have are long pants and sleeves (the rocks hurt at speed if you don't have these.....plus the engine is quite hot). Post up if you are intrigued. The available dates are March 26th (the end of Spring Break) or April 9th (1 week after CMF)

Edit from Tyler:

We are confirmed for Saturday, April 9th from 2-3 PM. I'm limiting the number of registrations to 20 and to club members. I decided that it would be prudent to do so, since we will be a fairly large group going out to somewhere in no way associated with the University and I want to leave a good impression and stay in the good graces of those I often pester at CMP. Pricing will be finalized when I have all of the registrations in and I will deal with member numbers as usual. PM me for more info if you need it. Big Grin

RE: CMP Karting
I agree with Kat. I'll probably be sailing on the 26th, so the 9th is better.

RE: CMP Karting
Here's the deal:
Pricing is a flat rate by hour and admittedly not cheap. It's $1000/hr for the track rental, but consider that it includes:
1. Tire replacement on all the karts if necessary
2. Unlimited fuel for the hour
3. Workers to flag the course in certain areas
4. 10 rental karts
5. All safety equipment is provided
6. The transponders in the karts
7. The ENTIRE .7 mile sprint course solely for us. Normally, the track is the .3 mile rental course and the .4 mile practice circuit on any given day.
If we get 15-20, that's $65-$50 per person. The normal going rate is $20 for 10 min or $120/hr, so it's essentially half price. I've been in these karts many times and I can tell you that 1 hour of driving is VERY intense and you are shot after. I usually only do 3 sessons, since my arms want to give out.
We could easily have enough fun in 2 10 min practices, 2 5min qualifiing, and 3 10 min races. The 3 races could be 2 10 car heats with the top 5 from both going to the final 10 car race. Winners will get bragging rights over everyone for a year Lol
The karts are stunningly fast and unlike any kart you can drive at Victory Lane or other places because they actually require you to drive them. You have to manage the weight, use the brakes, get your turn in point right etc.....you can't just mash and go. It's challenging and really freaking fun!

The karts at CMP are totally addictive. If you guys don't mind a geezer out on the track I may have to attend as well. Lol
