Reputable transmission shops around Clemson?
Hey all
So I'm tired of listening to my stupid trasmission/clutch/whatever make the awful noises it does, so I'd like to hand it to someone and just say "fix it." I tried when I replaced the clutch with Mike but that just made the problem worse. Soo suggestions for a place around the Clemson area would be good. Thanks -Tyler ![]() tylerz@clemsonscc.org |

A friend of the family owns Advanced Transmission in Mauldin. (greenville.) He has never advertised and grew from 1 stall to over 10... SHould take him less than a week to do a full rebuild depending on how busy he is.
Ask for Leon, Tell him Luke Prinsloo sent ya. (dont know if you'll get a discount, but hes a hellova nice guy.) oh and were talking FOF as in His bro and my dad were friends in 2nd grade in South Africa... They were at each other's weddings etc... going to his neices wedding in May... 2010 Chevy Silverado 5.3l Crew Cab. 2012 Mustang V6 Missed but not forgotten: 2006 350z Track. 1987 Porsche 944S. 1994 Geo Prizm. |

RE: Reputable transmission shops around Clemson?
Not sure I want to get a full rebuild (though it could certainly use it, and ill probably have him quote it anyway).. The annoying noises are coming from between the transmission and the engine. I dont know what's wrong, but the awful noise only happens when the clutch is out.

Correction. its Advanced Trans. I'd give the guy a call, he might diagnose over the phone. Or tell you to bring it, he'll hop in go for a test drive and probably give you an idea at least of what it is. If not just a number to fix.

RE: Reputable transmission shops around Clemson?
crazyboard we replaced the throwout bearing with the clutch and it was okay for about a week before it got much worse. I'll try to take a video of it in a bit. I didn't replace the pilot bearing.

RE: Reputable transmission shops around Clemson?
Pulling the tranny on a mustang really isn't hard at all. The hardest part is getting the exhaust off (passenger side header is a b!tch).
Other than that it's pretty easy. Mike and I had it out in an hour or so, and that included soaking my exhaust bolts in PB blaster. If you'd be willing to do that I'd have no problem with it. I don't mind helping either - just I really don't know much about transmissions, heh. ![]() tylerz@clemsonscc.org |

RE: Reputable transmission shops around Clemson?
yeah man that's no problem. only thing is you'll need to get a bearing puller unless your flywheel bolts aren't torque to yield then we can just pop the flywheel off with the impact.

RE: Reputable transmission shops around Clemson?
Sounds rough, could be the clutch fork out of alignment. I have a similar noise that sounds slightly less nasty and more like a can of change... Did you grease the bearings at all? idk if that's something you're supposed to do for every car or not.

Fill the pilot bearing hole with grease, get a steel rod that just fits inside of the pilot bearing, insert it, and give it a good tap with a hammer. Will work for beer. |

RE: Reputable transmission shops around Clemson?
You can rent the puller from advance for free, so no reason not to just use it...
I don't remember if we greased the bearings at all. Meh, trans has gotta come out either way I guess. Some folks have suggested the TOB, pilot bearing, and even the TOB retainer shaft. What's your schedule look like Andrew? A pilot bearing is cheap enough (would likely just get the OEM Ford one for $10) but Ford's TOB is $50, so I'd rather not get that unless it's what's wrong.. ![]() tylerz@clemsonscc.org |
