Looking for recommendations on...
a boost gauge and wideband O2 setup.

As of now I'm looking at

and

Anyone have any experience with these or know of others that you like more?

RE: Looking for recommendations on...
I just put an LC-1 with the G5 analog guage in my miata. Things have been pretty good with it. Installation was easy. Calibration was easy. Only issues I have had is I put the sensor front o2 sensor hole in the exhaust in my miata. This location is about 2 feet from the header and if I drive it hard for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear, the sensor gives off a overheat code. Not a huge issue because I thought it might be to close to the engine and today I am moving it to the rear o2 housing and I shouldn't have any issues with that. Also the front one is right near the firewall so it doesn't get any airflow. Other cars will be different.

Some people have had issued with grounding it, but I haven't had any problems. The guage reads about 0.3AFR different from what Megasquirt shows me, but I couldn't find any reason why besides that I have the analog gage. I am not really worried about being 0.3AFR off on that car either.

Word. I will be removing my post cat o2 sensors and running the wideband from that bung so it will be plenty far from the engine. If that is the only issue i may pounce on it.

How do you like your megasquirt? Methanol injection is something else i need to look in to before throwing the small pulley on my car.

RE: Looking for recommendations on...
yea, and it really isn't an issue. Basically the bosch o2 sensor they is only really accurate under 900 degrees so the overheating things just lets you know that it is getting hot and you might want to move it. Another nice thing about the LC-1 compared to others is that it can detect a bad o2 sensor. I remember reading one comparison of 8 widebands and they tried each one with a bad o2 sensor to see what happens. The Innovate one and one other company would let you know that the sensor was bad. The others would not tell you anything and would read up to 3AFR off.

Also with the LC-1 it has a really fast response time. The highest setting is infinite, but after some researching that was 25ms. I have it set to the next fastest which is 85ms, which it still reads every 25ms but it outputs the average every 85ms. Many people said that the 25ms setting if for a engine dyno where you have a lot of computing power to interpret the results. As an example the AEM one I think gives a reading every 200ms or so, it is hard to fine the information for that.

As far as the megasquirt is concerned, I am happy with it so car. For a simple engine like mine it works well. It takes a lot of research to figure out how to hook everything up correctly but once you have that down things are pretty simple. After now putting it in I know a lot more about engine management stuff and looking back there are other ECU's that I really like, but are $2K, where mine was a lot cheaper. For now I am happy with it and from what I want out of the engine it should be just fine.

Man, detecting a bad sensor is nice. My car has four of them (agreha;rgha;gh stupid Germans) and tries to let you know when one goes bad but lately I've been getting some false readings on the OBD.

I totally brain farted there...for some reason I read Megasquirt and thought Aquamist. I know nothing about aftermarket EFI so I'd probably blow a fuse trying to figure out how to set that up.

RE: Looking for recommendations on...
Have you deleted the cat(s)? Otherwise running a wideband 02 sensor post-cat will not give accurate readings, or so I have heard.

I am going to run the exact same wideband as Zach in the TT (and probably in the 335 someday...), Innovate LC-1 with the G5 analog gauge. Love the analog part, I'm not a big fan of flashy led gauges, even if they match the rest of the interior lighting...

Boost gauges are really whatever you like. I just went with a full analog (thus non-digital, as in you have to run a vaccum line to the gauge itself) from Autometer. Only cost like $60 brand new and it looks good IMO. Boost gauges are so simple its really hard to screw them up now-adays, I would spend more on the wideband for sure.

I havent deleted them yet...that is going to be part of my exhaust build when I do it, though. The blower is still sitting in a box at the house so I don't wanna kill my torque any more than I need to until it goes on.

RE: Looking for recommendations on...
I haven't taken mine cat out yet, but when the exhaust comes in this week it will be gone. it does change the readings from what I have heard, but I didn't notice anything different yet.
