Have to go to Atlanta on Sunday... Snow + summer tires = Bad
Hey all. So I have to pick up my girlfriend from the Atlanta airport on Sunday night and I'm worried about that chance of snow. My Mustang has extreme-performance summer tires (Hankook Ventus RS2) and I'm not particularly comfortable driving all the way to atlanta in this kind of weather. The Mustang is squirrelly enough in the rain, I shudder to think about what icy/snow I85 would be like.
Sooo I was wondering what your thoughts on this were? Does anyone have a set of 5X114.3 wheels on all-season or wintery tires I could borrow for the trip? Or a car? Thanks

meh, snow is fun, plus the interstate shouldn't be bad if theres any traffic at all, or they'll be clearing it, not to mention putting down that awful potassium chloride liquid stuff beforehand.

yeah, i had tires that weren't rated to perform ever (~360 treadwear kumhos), in 2-3 inches of snow, with an open diff. persevere, and you'll make it. plus, the interstates usually don't get snow accumulation.

tyler i would say you could take my truck again but i seriously think you'd have better traction in the mustang (you have a LSD right?). my tires are pretty much gone at this point and it has no real traction to speak of (which is fun when i want it to be
). i desperately need to install the truetrac i've been eying on Z1's website...

I drove the z to Ohio two years ago with summer tires. 19x10.5 inch ones... During the snow storm... (I made it, but it took me 11 hours to do the 8 hour drive...) (this was after the failed poker run...)

Think of it this way if you get stuck on the way back, it would be a romantic evening for the 2 of you.

It'll be fine Tyler. People will be out driving anyway and you'll have tracks to follow. Once you get out of the parking lot it'll just be wet streets.
Only exception is if the snow is still falling heavily as you leave. If that happens just give it an hour or two before you leave. ![]() Joy...is not trying to pan a fast moving object at dusk with a point-and shoot... |

RE: Have to go to Atlanta on Sunday... Snow + summer tires = Bad
I do have the option of taking her car... So the question becomes, all-season tires with an open diff or summer tires with a limited slip?
Or I could put her wheels on my car... ![]() tylerz@clemsonscc.org |

RE: Have to go to Atlanta on Sunday... Snow + summer tires = Bad
an open diff doesn't mean you automatically wreck in the snow or ice.
based on recent weather forecasts, we'll either get no accumulations, or 3-4 inches. i'm going to go with little to no accumulations. you probably won't lose hardly anytime since there won't be much traffic. 99 Neon R/T Coupe 98 Neon R/T Coupe 97 Neon ACR Sedan |

An open diff is actually more controllable in the snow... Just means you're more likely to get stuck. I'll most likely just take her car.

i don't see you getting stuck in GA snow, the forecast (for what it's worth) isn't saying anything about any significant accumulation.

Latest report is no snow until monday. You're good!
