Eh, just throw some sand bags in the back, you'll be fine. Snow and light rear ends don't go well, even if you have all seasons. Im actually heading to atlanta this weekend as well... didn't even know snow was a possibility.

Ted E. Bayer - Hillclimbing Understeer is when you hit the mountain with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the mountain with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the mountain, torque is how far you move the mountain. |

Maybe I'll just take my car and throw the chains on at the first sign of snow. Options right now are: * my car + put on chains at first sign of snow * her car + chains if needed * my car + her tires + chains if needed. RE: Have to go to Atlanta on Sunday... Snow + summer tires = Bad
If you get on the interstate after people have been driving, there won't be accumulation and chains will just be overkill and extremely annoying. I honestly doubt there will be that much snow accumulation in general, even less on the interstate, and not nearly enough to cause as much of an issue as you seem to think. I'm serious about driving in 3 inches of snow in my car, no one else had been on those roads yet. It was a little slow, but I made it just fine. As soon as I hit 25 leaving Hendersonville, the road had paths from other drivers and big rigs. I was able to drive at normal speed even though it was snowing like crazy.

RE: Have to go to Atlanta on Sunday... Snow + summer tires = Bad
I think you are taking this a little too seriously...interstates are the FIRST thing that are cleared, not to mention the amount of traffic keep ice from forming. Just take it slow and give the car in front of you plenty of room.
I drove back from Charleston during the first snow storm of the season, it was coming down real hard and I never even had a squirrely moment. And that was at 80mph... ![]() Clemson '11 |

You muse not get much snow where you are from in cali. It really isn't that big of a deal.

We used to visit my grandma in Nevada quite frequently and that involved a trip over the sierras. Can't tell you the number of cars I've seen upside down in a snow bank because their drivers were overconfident. Her flight doesn't land until 9:45. Weather Service Wrote:... If you get behind a snow plow, it's really nice and traction is great./. Just be sure it's not in Walmart parking lot...

RE: Have to go to Atlanta on Sunday... Snow + summer tires = Bad
My STi came with ext. perf. summer tires stock. We've had snow up here about 5 or 6 times in the past two months. The first time I nearly wrecked into a car or two in the parking lot in my apartment complex going 3 mph because my car had absolutely no traction on snow. Since then any time there's snow forecast I've driven the suburban. I'm planning to drive it to work Monday. Yeah, the interstates and main roads are clear and fine, it's when you get on those side roads that connect the main roads to where you're trying to go that you run into problems.
If you have another car as an option (sounds like you can use your girlfriend's car) I say use that. Worst case: you make a drive in a car with less power than your car. Best case: you don't end up stuffing your car into a solid object because you had no grip. I wouldn't risk it. ![]() ^--- This Miata is for sale: http://www.clemsonscc.org/thread-11851.html |

All flights were cancelled. I've got a friend with a jeep who is going to make the trek with me tomorrow if she makes it.
