K20z3 - Flashpro - Pump Gas Dyno Tune
Heath's 2009 Civic Si was in for a tune on Hondata FlashPro.

Here is the setup:

K20z3
CP 11:1 Pistons
Eagle Rods

DC Race Header
Tsudo 2 1/2" Exhaust
eBay Intake

Here are the results. The Green Chart is from the base pull, and the Blue Chart is from after the tune.

Heath was also slated to tune for a 75 shot of nitrous, but during the first nitrous pull, his fuel solenoid stopped working. As a result, Heaths engine will be getting a new set of exhaust valves and a new fuel solenoid, and then back to the dyno for a retune.

RE: K20z3 - Flashpro - Pump Gas Dyno Tune
Ouch...glad it was only the valves that burned! I was about to say please strap some nitrous or FI on that motor, gotta take advantage of those internals!!

On lowering the VTEC point, what are the targets? Does the TPS have to be >50% before it shifts lobes? I figure its still based on oil pressure, but I would hope they actually utilize the "i" in I-VTEC and make it smarter. I'm not sure on the gearing in the new Si's but I know on some of my buddies VTEC cars it gets annoying when you are at highway speeds and VTEC all of a sudden kicks in...

RE: K20z3 - Flashpro - Pump Gas Dyno Tune
It says "CP rods and eagle pistons"; any reason why these are upgraded? I know there are plenty on untouched internals w/ 350 - 400 hp which are said to be reliable.

As to JBs comment, if it's a new one, the vtec kicks in relatively late (6k as you can see in the stock drop off) so unless your friend isn't upshifting much, he shouldn't be getting into that range.

RE: K20z3 - Flashpro - Pump Gas Dyno Tune
a lot of decent tuning software allows you to make vtec 'ease' in at pretty much whatever rpm you choose (which from the looks of it is exactly what is done here). i don't know how it works, but my friend has it on his type s and it's b - e - autiful.

From what I know andrew, they basically create a "vtec window" which depending on throttle, load rpm etc. vtec will engage or not engage. I'm sure Spent can fill us in on the exacts, but hopefully you get the point.

Thats what I'm talking about. It looks like the factory VTEC is only using an RPM input, nothing like throttle position, load, etc. If you utilize more variables in the VTEC operation it gets smoother, or at least thats my take on it.

Also Ross the friend's Honda I was talking about was my room mates 94 Civic with a turbo B16. He didn't spool till close to 5k and his VTEC was set to 4k, so when he was on the highway he was humming around 3500 at 70. When he went to pass he would go into VTEC, but with no boost, so worse gas mileage with hardly any help in power...

In this case, vtec activates based on 75% throttle and 75kpa and the rpm window is between 4.4k & 5.5k rpms.

RE: K20z3 - Flashpro - Pump Gas Dyno Tune
With some programs I can change how the vacuum units and the boost units are measured and others I can't. Some have loads that don't translate into a specific load, instead it's a % of the capacity of the map/maf. I'm used to it by now and don't even think about it anymore when it comes to units of measuring.

I'm used to it by now and don't even think about it anymore when it comes to units of measuring but the ones that work of % are probably the most time consuming and therefore not my first preference if I had a choice.
