B16 - Garrett 60-1 - E85 Dyno Tune
We had a chance to get our CRX back on the dyno today for a few pulls, and since there has been so much discussion about E85 tunes as of late on the forums, I thought that I would share the lower boost numbers. This is a really simple setup, and is very similar to what lots of our customers are building.

Here is the setup:

B16 Block
Eagle Rods
81mm CP 11.5:1 Pistons
OEM Honda Bearings
Stock Sleeves
No Block Guard

Stock GSR Head
Stock GSR Cams
Victor X Intake Manifold
70mm Skunk 2 TB
ARP Head Studs
OEM Head Gaskets

Walbro 255 LPH Pump
Bosch 044 Inline Pump
Precison 1000cc Injectors
AEM FPR

Custom Mini Ram Turbo Manifold
Garrett 60-1 Turbo
3" Down Pipe
Tial 38mm Wastegate
Back Door Intercooler

Here is the chart on 9 PSI. Note that the smooting is on 0.

Here is the chart for 14 PSI. I'm not really sure how I grabbed this chart. I let off early, but final numbers were 448 WHP.

We also have a setting for 20 PSI, but I've decided not to post that chart for now.

On a 1.8t? I know they do tunes for the 1.9L diesels but I don't see anything for gas?

^ I will call the US Distributor again tomorrow. Unfortunately they were not aware it was offered till I mentioned that the European and Australian distributors have it for your setup. It will probably take 2 days to hear back since last time I spoke with my contact there, he mentioned he would have to contact the manufacturer directly to know which components go into the Unichip unit so he can give me a part number and price.

By the way, what modifications do you have thus far if any?

Interesting...

As for modifications I plan on running stock pistons (9.5:1) with forged rods. I want to use a Holset HX35 turbo without a MAF (if Unichip can do that...), running on stock head/valvetrain and intake manifold. As for fueling if I was going to run an e85 setup I probably will do a Walbro 255 intank, another inline, and 880cc injectors. I am deleting my secondary air injection, evap canisters, EGR, and most of the PCV system. If Unichip can still tune it then let me know!

what's the revlimiter on that 1.8t?
do they offer a different turbine housing so it bolts up easier?
full boost will prob be around mid to high 3000's, maybe 4000 if you are running under 15 psi.

Stock limiter is 7k, the stock head is good for about 7.5-8k, after that things start getting shaky without balancing everything and solid lifters. Prob most I will take it up to is 7.5 though, so yeah I wanted a turbo that would spool before 4k rpms. Evo guys running the 7-blade version have seen 10psi by 3300, I will be running the slightly more efficient 8-blade holset so hopefully my .2 liter disadvantage will be negated and I should spool about the same.

They don't really offer another turbine housing, not sure why it would have a problem bolting up except that its an internally gated hotside and is divided. If I do not get the boost characteristics I want I plan on trying a quick spool valve, so thats why I want to stick with the divided housing. As for the internal gate, if it can fit back there its just one less thing I have to buy thumbsup

RE: B16 - Garrett 60-1 - E85 Dyno Tune
JB, here is the response from my contact at Unichip.

"Hello Hubert,
Thanks for the email and sorry for the delay. I was looking at the wiring diagrams and it looks like we might have one available for the vehicle. The Price would be $575 without any mapping (will need a custom map). Just a starting map will be in the Unichip. Any other questions just let me know...."

Basically, there is no official part number but the tuning hardware is available. If statistics prove true, the starting map will probably not run the car efficiently so custom tuning is a must and it will basically be like starting from scratch.

Yes, you can tune for boost using a map sensor but the stock MAF sensor must remain in place. You simply need the following part to make it work.

Tuning: Crome Gold, S300, K-Pro, Flashpro, AEM EMS & F/IC, Haltech, Motec, PowerFC, Nistune, Utec, Cobb AccessPORT, SCT, Tweecer, C.A.T.S, Big Stuff, HP Tuners, Unichip, CPE Standback, TurboEdit, Megasquirt, DSM Link, SAFC, VAFC, NEO

RE: B16 - Garrett 60-1 - E85 Dyno Tune
Well if I still have to use the MAF then theres no reason to switch to MAP...the problem I have with MAF is that the sensors from VW are the entire tube, not just a removable sensor. So I will have a neck down to 2.5" for my turbo inlet, which will be 4". Not very efficient Sad

But thanks for checking up on that! I believe Unitronic has a tune that utilizes the factory wideband and deletes the MAF, if that won't work with the car then I will definitely be coming to y'all Big Grin
