112 Octane E85 Fuel
Just ran across this. As the title states, it's 112 octane E85. Sounds promising. Just posting for conversation...
Rocket Fuels E85 Roll over the center fuel. It's the only Ethanol Blend. Price is around $600 for a barrel ![]() TDCauto.com Chris@TDCauto.com 864-699-9436 625 Southport Rd. Roebuck, SC 29376 |

RE: 112 Octane E85 Fuel
How does that differ from E85 at our pumps?
JD 99 Miata. MP62 Supercharger, RB tubular sway bar, Koni Sports with FM springs. 15x8 Rotas with RA-1s, 190whp. Now with 3.90 Torsen. |

RE: 112 Octane E85 Fuel
Other than the higher octane ratings (105 at the pump vs 112 for this fuel), there are not many differences.
This fuel has no added petroleum gasoline, which aids in cold starts. The big difference in using a mixture like this one would be the consistany of the blend. Pump E85 switches between summer and winter blends, along with variations between brands, etc. Using a dedicated "race" blend such as the rocket fuels mix would eliminate the guesss work, the need for a test kit, and the need for retunes for each season. I only see this as useful for someone running a car at it's limit though. Since octane rating is an indication of a fuels ability to resist detonation, then I'm not really sure of how the raised octane level of this fuel would come into play. We've done lots of tuning with pump E85, with both summer and winter blends, and with every car that we've tuned, we were able to advance ignition timing values past the point of making power, and still no pre-ignition was seen. ![]() TDCauto.com Chris@TDCauto.com 864-699-9436 625 Southport Rd. RE: 112 Octane E85 Fuel
Remember that pump e85 is not 105 octane. E70 is 105 with e85 being much higher. If you look at the pump it states clearly that it is a minimum 70% and a minimum 105 octane.

RE: 112 Octane E85 Fuel
^Correct. E70 and E85 are commonly grouped together, since they are sold under the "E85" name plate, even though they are different fuel blends, and should be approached as so from a tuning standpoint.
Nice gains on the Corvette. What other fuel system upgrades did you guys do in preparation for the E85 tune? Here is a chart from an Integra that we tuned a while back. No changes to the car, other than E85. Both charts are at 15 PSI.

RE: 112 Octane E85 Fuel
The Z06 was bone stock, no changes other then tune and E85. Keep in mind there is no E70 or E85 but will always be somewhere between the two. E83 on day and then E81 the next, then E85 on the third tank. E85 is one of the best fuels available.
