TT Build Thread
So I figured instead of just continuing the other thread I would just log all my progress on the TT build in here. So far I have been able to remove the engine, and everything looks good. Even the clutch disk is in pretty good shape, so it looks like the last owner wasn't too hard on her (though I'm going with a much more aggressive disk when the big turbo goes on). I am thinking this engine was well taken care of, because for 135k miles the top and bottom end are pretty clean.

I am also working on turning my 3 closest HVAC vents into gauge pods. I got rid of the crappy Sunpro boost gauge and am going with Autometer stuff (great prices on them in Summit racing). I plan on running Oil Press., which you can see is the only one I have fitted so far, boost and AFR (going with Innovate on the wideband, not Autometer). I might have another gauge for fuel pressure but probably won't fit that in the cabin.

So here we go, let me know what you guys think!

Engine out, pain in the ass after dealing with the AWD system that Audi decided need to be braced in every way possible...

Cams and head, no sludge Smile

Bottom end, pretty clean. Decided to pull off a rod end cap to see how the bearings look. Looks like I will be able to re-use the bearings if they all look like this, yay!

And my first gauge fitment. I may add something to fill the gap, but I really don't mind how it looks at the moment so we will see...

I will keep updating as things come along. Hopefully I will be able to get this bad boy on the street by the time xmas break is over!

Nice work... looks like it's coming together great. Thanks for sharing flow of work. We'll look forward to seeing the fruits of your labor!

I wanted to be sure to document basically everything I do. I am hoping to use the "fruits of my labor" as part of my resume. I want to show whatever manager or possible investor that I know what I'm doing, and can get stuff done right and clean Smile

Hopefully I will be getting a TIG for xmas. Thats is all I have asked for, and for a good reason. Yet another skill to add to my resume, especially if I get good enough before this school year ends fabricating on the TT!

You're one lucky fool. That engine looks really good for that mileage and you got a steal at that price. I look forward to seeing that thing screaming down the road soon Big Grin

Couldn't handle the green body matched defrost vents, decided to make a quick change...

Pulled the POS head unit out and can finally close the TT headunit cover. Looks soooo much better!

Clean engine, dirty floor...

Someone decided to go mudding before I had this car, can't handle the dirt anymore so I am slowly cleaning everything off...

RE: TT Build Thread
as for the clear john, my roomie has a nice paintgun he might let you use. Problem is having an airtank with enough cfm and a heated shop (its too cold to paint most days now, supposed to be over 55 to paint...)

I've got an air compressor, not sure if 5cfm @ 90psi is enough though...

Boost!!

Got bored and decided to gut the back:

Cleaned the engine, now time to do everything else...

Did a brake flush because I was bored and the driver's rear bleeder decided to take a sh*t on me, so had to improvise until my new caliper comes in...another $100 I wasn't expecting!

Damn you bleeder...

might be worth calling a few junkyards and seeing if they have a wrecked one you could pull a caliper from. not studying for exams? haha
