Official CSCC Points System: Mario Kart 64 Style!!!
Kellan Heatley here:
I'll be keeping track of the points in our Autocross "season" for the 2010-2011 school year.

In an attempt to keep competition friendly and attitudes about the autocross "season" light, we've decided to use the time tested Mario Kart 64 style points system with the only change being that we will drop the points from one autocross, namely, your worst. So for those of you who played the game as obsessively as I did in my living room 13 years ago, you probably have a good understanding of how the system works.

For those of you who are too old or, god forbid, too young I'll explain:

In every event, in every class
1st place gets 10 points
2nd place gets 8 points
3rd place gets 6 points
4th place gets 4 points
5th place gets 2 points

Your points at the end of the season equal your points from your best Autocrosses minus 1 event ergo, if we have 6 events, you get your points from your best 5 events, 4 events run means points from 3 events etc.

Trophies are awarded at the end of the season based on how many people are in the class.
0-3 people gives out 1st place trophy
3-6 gives 1st and 2nd
6+ gives 1st, 2nd, and 3rd

We will most likely have silly trophies. Ideas tossed around were the "Cone Killa" (thanks Steve Big Grin) for the person who hits the most cones in an event. The trophy will be the most destroyed, useless, and marked up cone we can find with "Cone Killa" on it. Others may come soon.

If you have any questions, PM me or post in this thread. I'll be posting the points in a new thread soon.

only thing here wouldn't it be better to be able to have the worst time dropped also applied to events you don't go to? that way if you miss an autox but make the other 5 your not penalized.

that's the point of the drop an autoX system. If you don't go to an autoX, then you get 0 points for it and it's pretty hard to get worse than 0 points. The drop an autoX applies to everyone for that specific reason.

If you don't have the drop rule it will encourage more attendance. Wink

Making every event will be tough so we just want to give everyone a level playing field by having it so you can miss one event a year.

We will have to come up for a solution to ties. I like simple systems but they do make ties likely (sorry Kellan didn't think about this till y'all left).

What do you think? Maybe make their dropped time count?

Hahah maybe for the second tiebreaker. We do need a second and maybe more tiebreaker.

RE: Official CSCC Points System: Mario Kart 64 Style!!!
you could do the percentage/combined time deal for a tiebreaker Lol Tongue

a reasonable number of drops acutally does increase attendance I've found (between CSCC and being in charge of NASA stuff) - once people are out of it they just show up if they feel like it. But if you have to miss one event because life happens and the drops keep you in the hunt then you're going to keep showing up Smile

Screw the details...

let's get some cones, a knife and some yellow, green and black paint... I think we can make some GREAT directional cones...

I worked out the standings so far with no omissions:

One issue is where to place Elvira, it was run once in "E" and once in "R".

Will work for beer.
