says the designer of the course!

increase that paperclip course ~10% in size and that could change.

your crazy downhill then uphill, off-camber loop definitely didn't help any fwd cars.

or heavy RWD cars lol. neutralsteer, then plowing understeer uphill, then snap over steer when it levels out... in an automatic... not a fun turn.

especially in a small course like Saturday.

unless your car did over 50 in 1st or was way underpowered, 2nd gear was the way to go.

i ran the entire course in 2nd gear in a car with 150 whp and 130 ft-lbs.

a 1st gear downshift was definitely understandable in the huge loop, besides that, 2nd gear was the proper gear if your 2nd gear ranged from 55 to 75 mph.
i saw no major difference in my times in 3 fun runs downshifting to 1st gear in the loop.

my car does around 38 in 1st gear and 64 in 2nd.
my peak speed on the course was 39.7 mph

unless you are underpowered, driving around the course at over 75% of your redline doesn't produce a composed vehicle.

Dave might be loud and obnoxious most of the time, but he's def right on this. Unless your a very avid autoxer that puts up very competitive times at every event, downshifting usually ends up hurting you more than anything else.

As for 1st vs second gear, clearly none of y'all suggesting 2nd gear are driving an anemically torqued rotary. 1st was the way to go for that car.

Fun runs are almost always faster for 3 reasons:
1. You don't care if you hit cones, so you don't think about them.
2. It's your 5th or 6th crack at the course
3. You don't really care about your time, so you don't push as hard.
It's annoying to see after the fact, but hey, you had fun right? Smile

Actually it was due to some really solid pointers from Rob. I pushed just as hard earlier and took out more cones in the actual autoX than the fun runs. So yes, mostly due to the fact that it was more runs with some good advice. But YES, it was in fact fun!

Lol... good way to start a post.

I've known him since my first autox (2005) so you can see it's been a while. You'd have to say a lot more to offend him.

Actually the Bandit FTW Surprised

I was thinking that the autox was going to be in that whole upper lot...not a third of it. With the limited space it was a decent course. I think Sunny D would have done better than the s2k on a tight course like that.

Thanks for putting on a good event!

RE: Results - October 9, 2010
looks like alot of people - 78! And close competition in CC1 too thumbsup sounds almost like "old times". Great job everyone, keep it going Smile

FWIW the old points system that was used was done by percentage of FTD (when it was all 1 class) or by your class winner's time (when it became street tire/ race tire/ club car and then eventually NASA-X classes). Formula is ( FTD / that person's time) X 100

Ex for overall for this event:
1st Ted - 100pts
2nd TJ - 99.218 pts
3rd Rob S - 94.248 pts
etc

Ex for in-class for CC1 this event:
1st - 100
2nd - 99.332
etc

It sounds complicated but its really easy to setup in Excel - happy to walk someone through that if needed. I like it because it reflects how much you beat people by or got beaten by vs one event where you could win by 2 secs and the next lose the points lead by coming in 3rd just a few tenths back. Plus there was one year where I beat JD Henley in class by I want to say it was either 2 hundredths or 2 or 3 thousandths of a point for the season and we were both maybe a tenth of a point ahead of 3rd - very close!!

Or you could do something more like the F1 points breakdown where its by position - there are tons of autox clubs that do it that way as well.

Just putting ideas out there Smile
