rallying interest for autocross's
Just a thought,
Ive talked to a lot of car guys on campus and many people do not know what auto cross is, or even after i tell them the website name 3 times they just cant remember it when they get home at the end of the day to check the forum out and sign up. Why not do a library bridge tent one day with a few computers (2 for sign up one playing footage from a previous autocross) so people can register on the spot if they wish. Id suggest setting it up so tigerstripe can be accepted too. RE: rallying interest for autocross's
Really good idea. If we can capitalize on the "impulse buy" then we can probably seriously hike up the attendance. Even if we can just have a form they can fill out real quick and a tiger stripe or cash payment we can put the info into the computers. Standing and entering info into a computer can be a PITA.
Any easy ways to accept tiger stripe? aka can we get one of those little swipe machines cause that would be kinda sick. |

RE: rallying interest for autocross's
We'd have to get a mobile card reader and the program to run it if we were to accept cards on the spot. And idk if Clemson would even allow us to accept it.
But yea I do agree that a library bridge display would help hike up attendance, even if its just spectators. ![]()

Tiger Stripe isn't free, merchants have to pay a fee to accept it. I think it's percentage based, but it might be a flat fee.

I think its both, a flat fee every month along with a percentage of each transaction. Not positive this is true but from what I have heard from several places that take tiger strip it is not cheap. Its a great idea though, but I highly doubt we will be able to stay in the black by using tigerstripe... We tried to get people to sign up to help advertise the CSCC events last meeting. Nobody signed up... so if someone wants to take the reigns on advertising PLEASE let me know. Whoever heads that committee can do whatever they want to get the word out (within reason), some ideas include library bridge table, flyers, yard signs, banners, etc. ![]() Clemson '11 |

RE: rallying interest for autocross's
You can get a tigerstripe card reader guys. Just go to hendrix and/or the library and talk to them. I know you can though, and the conveniences for the average student should EASILY outweigh any costs the club has to pay. Just think, sometimes getting paid a crappy wage to do a job is better than having no job to do at all. I know when I was living on campus I only carried around my phone, keys and tiger stripe, so whatever I paid for I used the money I had on that. Even when I went off campus, I used money in my tigerstripe to buy food on campus. By using this tigerstripe reader, your enabling people to have more of an emotional buy rather than allowing them to do what typically happens in which they forget or just never make an effort to follow through with their original interest.
I have wanted to do this video idea for a while and just haven't always had the resources (i.e. a nice monitor/computer screen to use) so this would easily be a good attention getter. Also, consider business cards. Easy to fit in your wallet and hang out when you meet someone. ![]() 2010 Mk6 Gti... No it's not a DSG

RE: rallying interest for autocross's
Definitely a good idea to have a booth up. if you want i have a tone of autocross videos on my youtube channel from cscc events and others that you can use. Most recently they are all in car but i do have some older ones of other people driving and you can see the track.

RE: rallying interest for autocross's
Lol so my comment was a bit ignorant. If we can get these tiger stripe readers for cheap then thats a GREAT idea. Retailers bank bigtime on compulsive sales, why shouldn't we take advantage of it too? The only problem with this great idea is the lack of people actually standing up to help. I am down to sit on the library bridge for a day in between classes but its gonna take more than myself to make this work. I am going to see if I can find out who to talk to about getting a tiger1 card reader, but seriously if anyone wants to help do this sometime later this week or next week then PM me or post up here.
The autocross is getting close guys, we have less than 2 weeks to go. Lets get 50 participants pre-registered, that would really show Clemson what we are capable of! ![]() Clemson '11 |

RE: rallying interest for autocross's
Any updates on this? I know the Formula SAE team gets a lot of publicity by having their car out on the bridge. No way we could get a whole car out on the bridge, any suggestions on attention getters that we could put out with a table? If you guys want to work on this again, I'd love to take a shift out on the bridge.

RE: rallying interest for autocross's
How about taking credit cards? When I ran Lowcountry Corvette in Charleston, SC, I had a Palm VIIx with internet access and could accept credit cards at POS (point of sale, not piece of s). Credit card companies charge a fee to set this up, and get a cut of every sale. Google search for taking credit cards for an online business. With an internet enabled phone, you're in business.
The FSAE car, or an F500 car would probably work just fine on the bridge. Give out something like CSCC key fobs and a t-shirt with a "premium" membership. Also, never hurts to have a few pretty girls at the booth. I come from a banking family, so believe me when I say that credit card machines are panifully expensive. Plus, most charge about 1.50 or 2 dollars per transaction, nevermind the initial purchase of the machine. I shudder at the cost of a wireless one. I'd rather spend that level of cash on a super awesome timing system. As for membership "levels", I want to keep it simple. RE: rallying interest for autocross's
Steve you can order an attachment for smart phones (mainly IPhones) for very cheap, sometimes even free, to take credit card pmts. Yes they might charge a slightly higher rate, I think it is somewhere around 3-5%, but I think it might be something to look into for future events...

RE: rallying interest for autocross's
When I was taking POS orders, I keyed the numbers in manually. Not as slick as card swipe, but effective. Sounds like fees have gone up since I last ran a side-business.

That's all well and good.....but I would be very hesitant to take people's info on something like that, since I don't know exactly where it's going. If it was PayPal or something smilar to Motorsport Reg that is secure or well tracked, I'd do it. But that seems slightly open to theft to me.
