RE: Results 2.28.2010
Besides needing new tires and the cat being clogged, the car has pretty much been issue free really. If we check the oil, other fluids, and esp. the coolant a few times per event, the car should run for a good long time. I figure there's a reason why people prefer this car for Lemons.

RE: Results 2.28.2010
actually the power steering belt exploded, the breaks seized, fender liner came off, and the tires are shot as well.
all this after David and I spent 13 hours working on it at Steve's from Chap Racing (plug). 08-09 CSCC Treasurer 09-10 CSCC President '92 Honda Accord EX ( > 400,000 miles) 1970 MG B (restored) |

The car is fine. It needs to be driven so all these little items can surface and be fixed. I want to come up with some sort of system by which someone does some quick visual checks between run groups, but other than that I think a lot of major issues are behind us already. There are some issues I think will eventually come up...the radiator is starting to seep a little and there also seemed to be a little coolant leak around the intake manifold. Mike suggested this was a common problem with O-rings, if I notice it again (i.e. it wasn't spilled there from the radiator or something) I'll look into replacing them. The radiator supposedly has a lifetime warranty according to the sticker on it, so I'll look into that as well. I also have to re-secure the radiator fan shroud, but there's a bolt that just needs a nut to hold it at the top. Realize that it's probably better for the car to run continuously because it keeps air moving through the radiator and the fan spinning at high speed. The old car would actually run hotter sitting between runs than when it was being hot-lapped. Sportscar is in head, not under hood. --Yutaka Katayama

RE: Results 2.28.2010
^^ exactly. shaun, thanks again for all of your help, it's been great to have the club car present at all of our events. we can't be afraid of minor problems or maintenance, the whole reason we have the car is for it to be run, and it takes being run hard pretty well.

RE: Results 2.28.2010
To the officers, great job. This was my first Clemson autocross in a LONG time and it was terrific. I saw a lot of old friends and had a fantastic time. What a fun lot too!
Regarding CC1, I learned to autocross on the old shell back in my sophmore year in 06'. We had anywhere between 6 and 12 people running that car every race weekend and it didn't even hick-up. As Shaun stated, running the car will allow all its problems to surface so that you guys can fix them and develop the car to be even better. I don't run CC1 now, but just thought i'd express the way we had run things in the past. Clemson 2008 Alum. |
