RE: anther new kid
yeah, bad gas. clogged them up for a while. There's a place that sells 110 octane by my house in charleston. We put a few gallons of that in there, went to this really fun back road, and drove the livin' balls off of it. After about a mile of flogging it through the country side, we heard it backfire and smooth out. it's been running nice ever since. Those injectors(well, the whole engines) are six kinds of finicky.

RE: anther new kid
i was impressed with it. i know, it's an automatic, but I put it in second gear and the throttle response i was getting from it was actually pretty good. I got close to (what sounded like) 4500 rpm on the back straight and it shifted down into first coming out of the slalom. say what you want, but it let me concentrate on steering more. My biggest problem was my tires.

RE: anther new kid
Typically, you just want to shift to second soon after the start and then leave it there anyway. Could be different for a manual 300ZX though, I have no idea.

RE: anther new kid
yeah. the gearing on the auto's is shorter because there are fewer of them. When i get better tires, i'll be getting up just enough extra speed to get close to the top of second gear. i'm thinking dunlop's and stillen antisway bars.

Let someone with experience drive your car first before you go upgrading stuff... I was all ready to upgrade stuff after my first auto-x too and then zach drove my car a good 3 seconds faster than I did.

Best mod is a driver mod Smile

^ Truth

Best two mods you can do for auto-x when you are learning is practice and sticky street tires. Don't bother with R-comps or other suspension goodies until you get a feel for the car at its stock limits.

RE: anther new kid
yeah, i figured. but i do need better tires. I have really cheap all season tires on it right now. Not my choice. My sis is a senior up here and has ruined her car by hitting pot-holes, running off the road, general bad driving, and her car has basically crapped out on her. so my parent's sent me up here with my car. i thought it was a blessing, but she's had it more than i have. I think i wasted money on a parking pass. anyway, they said i had to have something that could handle rain and snow, hence the crap wrapped around my wheels. I was thinking about some kazera KZ-K's wrapped in dunlop direzza Z1 star specs. any thoughts?

RE: anther new kid
Star specs are good tires. Not too expensive but will handle just as well as the more expensive tires. I have RE01r's on my car now and its a HUGE difference form the Fuzion HRi's the previous owner slapped on the car before they sold it Tongue . Well...except in the wet, as I learned this past weekend cry

I think you mean longer. Smile

A set of sways will improve feel and Stillen is a good company.

I know its not the supported view of this forum but getting on some tight back roads and driving the hell out of the car is a good way to learn its limits.

PM me if you need some "ideas" on some "scenic" routes. Big Grin
