so i just got a tune up on my 1990 300zx NA. My names Kellan and i'm a freshman engineering student. anyway, i was on my way up here the other weekend and the engine dropped a cylinder. It started running rough and getting horrible fuel mileage. I don't drive it too hard, but its not a grocery getter. I got new plugs and a new connections on the wiring harness. So its either a bad connection or the injectors are finally going. they're the original injectors from 1990 and these cars have a bad history with them. i'm surprised they're still working. any thoughts?
WELCOME!
and i think the injectors on my '85 Z are dirty as hell!
idk much about that engine, but can you take the injectors out to check them?

Hey Kellan
Sorry you're having trouble. Troubleshooting can drive you nuts. If you can pull an injector, one at a time but leave it connected to fuel line and wires, put it inside a glass jar and have someone start the car... you will either see nothing (injector jammed completely or electrical problem), odd spray pattern (partially jammed) or nice circle of spray all the way around the glass (good one). Do that with each til you find the culprit. IF you don't find it any bad ones, problem is not injectors or power to injectors. I'd look at spark next.
Hope that helps.
Ted
welcome!
if your getting fuel, but no spark, and plugs/wires are fine, you could have a coil pack out. (i'm assuming electronic ignition) it happened to me. not to jump the gun, but just to give you a lead. I figured it out on mine by throwing a timing light on and not getting anything. little quicker than checking each plug for spark individually.
Have you tried something like Z-max fuel treatment? Maybe if the obstruction isn't too bad it can help out...
i ran some cleaner through it and it cleared right up. thanks guys. New problem. My sister is a senior here and she has a '93 300. now being a real life barbie, she doesn't care about her's. Last week she blew out her front tires, ran 'em flat. so she had to send it home(charleston) and i had to let her borrow my car for her internship. Today i get a call from her, it's running way too hot. she brings it back and it's out of water in the radiator. i let it cool down, took the cap off, and filled it back up. The water is moving, so it isn't the pump. i let it run for a while and i saw that it was leaking. 12 radiator hoses, i'm surprised it didn't start earlier. Anyway, i need a shop around here that won't take me for a ride, any suggestions?
does she drive a red 2+2?

The Meineke shop in Easley (hwy 123 across from Kmart) is very CSCC friendly and very capable. Ask for Curtis and tell him you are with CSCC.
actually, the red 2+2 is mine, but she's been driving it lately. and thanks, i'll probably go to that shop.
yeah figured i'd ask because I saw a 1990 2+2 the other day! HAHA
