We had a blast this weekend at the time trial... and we HAD THREE DRIVERS REPRESENTING CLEMSON SCC!!

Marc Osgood ran his Honda Si and Matt Swords did very well in his BMW both in the Advanced class PDX and TJ Theodore won CSP Class with a 1:24.02 best lap.... the track record in CSP is 1:24.01 set by Heath McMillan in a Honda 1 year before winning the national championship in CSP Solo II.

Both the BMW and TJ's miata had tiger paws and CSCC logos. Nice Job guys!
what did Matt & Marc run??
To be official track times, you are required now to use transponders. That would add to the costs of the PDX part of the event. Since the purpose of the PDX is just to get some track time at a low cost, we didn't use transponders for the PDX part.

Marc just ran a few sessions in his street Honda on old tires for free for helping out to run the event. I timed Matt in a few sessions by hand and I think he was in 1:30 - 1:28 range... he had that machine flying by end of the 2nd day! wink

We really saw a lot of improvement in the guys running the PDX over the 2 days. EVERYONE got more track time than they wanted. It's funny...everyone says they want LOTS of track time but by end of the 2nd day, they are either :
a. Exhausted and ready to go home
b. Out of gas
c. Out of tires.

$250 for 200 minutes of driving on track time ...also classroom instruction and a ride along instructor available ... not too bad! Great way to find out if this what you like and what your car and you can do.
my father and I put down 400 miles this weekend and it was GREAT. i never thought i would say it but there really is such a thing as to much track time (at least when its 99 outside)

thanks TJ for the camera, so far i watched one clip and saw a ~1:35 but i wouldn't be surprised if ted saw me put down a 1:30
(SE30 records are in the 1:24 area so im happy with a 1:30 for now)

my father had a great time this weekend, and i think its safe to say we will be seeing a lot more of him on track in the future....

thanks SCR-SCCA for a GREAT weekend Smile
That would be so much fun. Not that my mustang would do well (at all) but it'd still be a blast...

So people that just go up to volunteer can run the course for free during off hours?

We do low speed (~50 mph) "track tours" during lunch break, but we also have a program where volunteers can earn money off a PDX entry of their own with each day of volunteering.

In Marc's case, we bribed him with a couple of free sessions in exchange for coming and working sound control. Once everyone had made a bunch of runs and we had determined no one (except for 2 Formula Mazda's) was even close on sound, we put him in a car.

We've kicked around several ideas for letting volunteers get free PDX time on the same weekend at which they volunteer. One idea is to have a very small PDX group that runs during our road race weekends. It's still in the discussion stages, but other SCCA regions have done it with great success.
Pictures from the Weekend....

I am no photographer but... a couple of good shots. Even got Matt's BMW at the finish line!

That is good to hear. I hope that he was happy with the instruction that he received. He made major improvements from his first session to his last. He got to the point where the extra speed that he was carrying due to following instruction so well was taking the car to its limit and a bit beyond.

I figured out that working a corner, driving, and instructing all day long gives you gas:
