So I got my car inspected (it passed to everyones surprise) but my mechanic said the cv joint boots are coming apart and grease is going everywhere.

anyway my car is a piece and Im broke so I don't feel like pulling the axles to do it properly.

are there boots that you can just wrap around the cv joins and glue them together or something?

My dad seems to think they exist but I can't really find anything about it.
This must be in the Sentra? Axles should be really easy for that thing. On my Integra, all I have to do is remove the wheels, take the axle nut off, and disconnect the lower balljoint. The knuckle should swing out and the axle will come right out then.

I wouldn't bother trying to rig up anything, it's much easier to just buy some new axles and swap them out. Keep the old axles in the boxes the new ones came in, then get some boots and grease, and replace the old boots with new ones and clean out the joints and fill up with new grease. Next time your boots split, just swap the ones you re-booted back in and do the same thing with the others...this way you will always have spare axles.

Or if you really are "that lazy"...just get some rags and duct tape...clean the grease off the outside really well, and tape up the splits. Don't tape it too much, or the tape will hinder the boot's movement (and likely just fall back off). You should also regrease the boots before you close them up, since you have probably lost a lot. I can't remember what kind of grease I used on my CV joints last time but Hariett Tubman suggested it, just go up to the Clemson Advance Auto and ask him.

Yes, those things *do* exist. I don't recall the trademarked name, though.

It's really, really, much better to do it right the first time. Those boots inevitably split pretty quickly along the glued seam. CV axles should only be about $60/ea from your local parts store, and then you have new boots, and new bearings in both inner and outer joints.

If you really are that lazy, buy the joints and we can work something out for me putting them in.
