Full Version: Hawk brake pads for the Hatch

Yes another brake pad question. I've got a $100 credit that I need to spend.

What are the best pads that Hawk offers that can slow the hatch down with the Integra brakes. They will be only for track or hill climbs. I know I will probably have to upgrade the brakes one day but I want to see if good pads will do the trick first.

Or should I pony up for some Carbotechs?
track only pad would be Blue 9012s a good combo track/street pad would be the HP+. Haven't heard anything bad about either of those. Blue's won't fade on you. HP+ might fade but only because you will be stopping from Mach 2 Smile
i would "think" HP+ would be a better AX pad since the temps arent as high as track use (fell free to tell me im wrong)

for hill climb / track i would look into the new DTC line, or Call Hawk and they could recomend a pad for your needs
I like the sounds of the DTC line, I'll give them a call tomorrow.
call them up, tell them your power level, weight, and brake package - you'll likely want the biggest baddest stuff they make

don't neglect ducting & nice fluid too Cool
Calling them sounds like a good idea. I've heard that the Blue is an older compound, works well but murder on rotors. The HT-10 is their more modern offering, I know that lots of SpecE30 drivers use them. They're also not driving crazy twincharged specials twisted
Here's the scoop on the HP Plus pads:

I had them on my CRX for about 2 years. yes, 2 years, one set, 1 track day, and about 10 autocrosses and they did great!
Don't put them on the rear if you plan to daily drive the car. the rears do not build up enough heat during regular street use and will give horrible vibration and noise. I had to do some major brake-in procedures to get them to stop. by this i mean going to a track day. The fronts won't have any problems, or atleast for me they didn't.
At the track day, i noticed a major amount of fade, but i was driving very hard, putting down times that were only a few seconds slower than the equivalent ITA CRX times for the track. This wasn't due to the pads, but the rotors. The rotors got so hot, that if the car stopped moving for more than 10 seconds, it would boil the fluid and i would have NO brakes!!! I had to back off 100-200 feet in my braking zones (i wanted to be able to get home). I was using stock rotors and I think with drilled or slotted rotors this would not be a problem.

Just giving you my 2 cents input about the pads. If you are not going to do alot of track days, then they are great for front pads, if you are going to do alot of track days, it's almost worth it to get a set of track pads to just change at the track (since changing front pads on a honda isn't that difficult or time consuming anyways).
But since you have Integra brakes on your civic, they may be able to handle the heat and may not fade at all.
I had HP+ on my civic and I really didn't like them. They has as much dust as the carbotechs I had, yet if I was driving hard they would fade. I really wasn't that impressed with them.

I also have been out in a miata with HP+ on it and they didn't last very long before they faded. This was with hard and long stopping but with a lot of time to cool off between stops.

I don't know about Hawks other pads though. I am just not a fan of the HP+ at all. I am a carbotech fan myself.
Check out Raybestos ST-43s as well. I'm using them now for track stuff, and they work well. They're an endurance pad, so they give reasonably long life, good pedal feel and modulation, and are reasonably priced. They also don't give off wheel eating dust like some of the Hawk offerings do.

he can't use any of those regular hawk pads.
like HP or HP Plus, etc.
he'd destroy those pads, boil his fluid, and set his rotors on fire in probably 1 or 2 laps.
he has enough power to walk any speed world challenge touring or honda challenge car.

i would run the blues or HT-10 pads, preferably HT-10.
i would entertain the DTC-60 for track days only, i wouldn't use them in a hillclimb.

ps, you should really cage your car Marc.

Ahhh...i see. Then yes, full race pads are necessary! I only have to stop a 2200 pound car from 100 mph, not 130mph!!!

at Road Atlanta, he'll be over 150 on the back straight.
VIR back straight the hatch hit 157mph when it had 290whp. It's a little faster now.

Cage is on the list...
