So our team is heading out for the last race of the year this weekend. We will be doing 2 hours of practice on friday and the race is 7 hours on saturday and then 7 on sunday. Things should be looking good for us. Well finally have good tires. 205/50/15 star specs instead of our 13" all seasons we were using. Some minor aero stuff, but we don't know how long it will last. I should have my Go Pro in the car as well so videos will follow next week.

Anyone have some tips for driving RRR. I am going to be watching videos from trackpedia today and tomorrow during my lunch to try to learn it, but tips would be great.
Zach.... I'm going to predict this will be one of the best outings so far for you guys! LEarned a lot on car and on driving these things and I think it's going to all come together. Look forward to hearing all about it. Go get 'em!

If you guys get a BBQ restaurant to sponsor you, make sure you spell it right on the car! http://www.vimeo.com/1915627

The wankel won't be out at the fall CMP Lemons race? We'll have the Generar Ree there trying to improve on it's solid 65th place finish in the spring.

we weren't a huge fan of lemons. I mean it is fun, but having 90 cars on a 1.2 mile track is pretty packed.
keep oil in the car - very long fast high speed sweepers

everything is a super late apex when you're by yourself - but racing you might have to defend or watch your inside all the damn time if you're on the "qualifying" line - you'll get some yahoos that try and drive in there a bunch I'd imagine.

If the car goes off in the last turn be very very ginger in easing it back on. If it tries to spin there do everything humanly possible to 1.) not look at the wall and 2.) force the car to go left however you can.

I'll put the over/under on cars into the wall in the last turn at 3.5, and number of cars that lose engines at 2.5 - any takers?
This is my worker's break lap from last year. Speed limited to 55 mph, so you get a nice slow view of the track. I'm not driving the line since I was busy holding the camera while driving -- not recommended at racing speeds! Smile

Very hot and tiring weekend. With 5 of us there we went through 72 water bottles between friday and saturday.

The car had it's issues again. Blew up another muffler on the first day. Second day we were struggling with fueling issues again. Turns out most fuel cell foams aren't resistant to the 10% ethonal in the gass now a days so we had small piees of foam cloging up things in the system.

Other than that the event was awesome. The track is a bunch of run. Taking the last turn as fast as you can is scary but a ton of fun to rocket onto the front straight. We could floor it all the way through turn 3 as well, this was at about 95 which I think is pretty good for street tires. we had a bunch of grip with the new tires I passed about 6 people on turn 4 with my inside completly in the dirt/sand. My fastest lap was a 1:33.9 on saturday. I know I picked up a bunch of speed in the corners on sunday because the engine was running really badly, but the higher you could keep the RPM's the better it ran so I concentrated on keeping my cornering speeds as hich as possible.

With the new wheels and tires we added 13lbs per corner of weight, but the car only weighs 2050 lbs with about 5 gallons of gas. We were surprised about that. No videos, but Jaimie took pictures. Ill try to post some tonight.
Sounds like a blast
Congrats Zach.... Ron filled me in on the double fuel pump electricals... that car really does have a stout engine. Do you guys have one more race this year?
I don't think we are going to do any more races. There is one at Sebring in september, but due to taking the time off from work and finances I don't plan on going.

engine is good but we were actually average on the straight, but the corners were so fast. One team (Ramrod Racing) has an 80's camaro with a auto, but it is a V8. Our times were about the same as theirs, but they were doing 138 going into turn 1, we were only doing about 117. We need to bridgeport it.
1:33s is about what I did in Matt Heller's old 2nd gen RX7 on streets. That's a damn good time for a street tire 1st gen RX7 in traffic thumbsup
Well, the 1:33 probably was a clean lap. Also we are using Star Specs(one of the good street class autocross tires). Also we have a street port so we have about 130WHP. I know there is more time out there. Dave's fastest was a low 1:30. He is a very fast driver. I really wanna get something in the car so we know what times we are running. That way we can figure out what line is faster than others. I saw one on longacre which was cool.

The one thing that made me happy was at the end of my 2 hour stint I did a 1:34.0. so I guess I wasn't as tires as I thought.
I love my Traqmate - the predictive laptime feature alone was worth it. Keep an eye out for a used one, worth every penny! You'll learn alot more from that, plus the data aq after, etc than you will a simple laptimer Smile
LOLs, my crx has more torque than the racecar. It was a pretty fun event, I got fried and eaten alive by fire ants, the guys tried the stay cool, and the car caught a cold. Of and Kathy from ChumpCar wants to get in touch with you Ted. She is really interested in the Second Gear Program and some other events and programs that you might know about.
