Hey guys...

I want an S2000...

Owners post up... lets discuss them
Josh we already talked about this. Unledd it has a big turbo'supercharger your going to hate it.

If not, ohlins and some 275's at least or I am not impressed.
I had one. For nearly 3 months. I hated it.

I'm way too large for that small of a car.

The 350Z's fit me way better.
go test drive one - you'll either love it or hate it Smile simple as that, very polarizing car once you're behind the wheel.

FWIW I want one baaaaadddd
What you really want is an LS1 Camaro Wink Tongue

After I typed this, I thought that maybe I was a little quick to condem the S2K. I'll rephrase.

When I first got the car, I liked it, as usual.... having a convertible was nice, I'm a huge fan of anything VTEC, and the car was amazing to drive in the curves. For the first several weekends that I had the car, I did nothing but drive up and down the Saluda Grade. Top up, Top down, mmm-bahhhh.

The S2000 was designed for this, and it does it well.

Until you have to go to work.

I found that the S2K was not fit for a daily commuter. For one, it's really cramped. I'm 6'1", 240lbs, and I just didn't fit in the car well. The seats do not recline far enough for me, and visibility is at a minimum. In fact, I was only close to comfortable driving the car when the top was down, and I could "expand" over the door a little. I found having to step over the door sill to get out a little annoying (check this out if you test drive one).

I added a TR1 exhaust to the car, and hated the drone from it. I tried to pawn the car off on Marc Osgood for a 99 SI one night, just to get out of driving it home.

I guess if you didn't have to drive an S2K everyday, it would be a fun car, but if you're going to buy one, try to borrow one from a friend for a week or so.
Go test drive the one at Leader Ford in Seneca, its blue with aftermarket wheels.
I went riding with a few from Gville this weekend thru the mtns. pretty cool cars but I would rather have a CTS V.

some of them hang out at http://www.s2ki.com
Oh man I was not expecting an s2k flame fest when i read the title of this thread!

I want one so bad I can't see straight... I think about several times every single day... Literally

But then again I've never driven one Lol, it only fits my imaginary criteria of the perfect car.

2 seats, drop top, lightweight, 50 50 weight distribution, and an engine that screams out to 9 grand. and did I mention simple yet elegant style?

come on now!
Josh you can't fit into an S2k...remember the Miata??

the oem rearends are kind of weak.
you'll want to upgrade the rearend bearing caps if you drive it hard (launches, etc)
Comptech makes a reinforcement kit.

i'm a big fan of changing the final drive.

earlier years have some small TSB's.

depending on what you want to spend, somewhere north of 100k miles, the timing chain tensioners need replacement.

most owners don't adjust the valves often enough, so expect to do that.

if you want to turbo one, they rock for that.
put in a strong clutch, fuel pump, injectors, hondata/aem.
i would only run a tubular turbo manifold.
the entire oem motor is forged, maybe shim the head gasket?

i'm a big fan of the cars.
For those who do fit in the S2K, it seems like a great car for AX and track events. I'm 6'1" and need to remove the roof panel from my Corvettes in order to drive with a helmet on. No way I'd fit a Honda S2K, or an Elise for that matter.

Our next family car will need at least 1000 lbm towing capacity. I've been thinking about a Subaru Outback or GMC Terrain, but I'll have plenty of time to think about it while paying for oral surgery and braces for both our kids. Surgery for both begins tomorrow morning, and we recently made our down payments on the braces.

Husband who needed braces as a teenager + wife who needed oral surgery and braces as an adult = kids who need braces and oral surgery. No one ever said having kids would be cheap.

Sorry for derail, back to Honda S2K. If you have kids, you'll need another car as daily driver. Smile

Cheers,
Steven Cagle
I rode in one for the autocross and was shocked at how fast the thing revs and how well it changed directions. That said.....you could get a FFR Cobra for the same money and be tons faster twisted But you'd have to be mental like me to want to drive that everyday. My American love aside, Honda makes great cars and the S2K is a car that the other guys (except Mazda with the Miata) won't make. Hondas have personality and are WAY cool. I do bet that it would be cramped for a daily car, however.
I will be turbocharging said S2k with a rather large turbo...

they are great motors and great cars... VERY good insight here guys! I'm impressed everyone came together with valid opinions!!!

I've already driven AP1's and drove an AP2 the other day... as well as a EVO X MR and a GT500...

I really liked the personality of the AP2 over the others
I can too fit! its tight... but eh... I'll live! Hhahaha
