this is the stuff i work on among other things we have here at the house.
guy shipped to me from Kentucky (i'm in Lawrenceville, GA)

it has a fairly simple setup:
2.4 with a base neon 3.55 final drive transmission (3.94 is the performance FD).
JE 10.5:1 pistons Eagle Rods
Head decked .020"
Crane #18 Cams, Crower Valve Springs
Boomba 2.4 Adjustable Gears
Walbro 255, 58 psi regulator, 24 lb injectors
Cold Air Intake
52mm ATX throttle body (stock is 49mm)
AFX Street Underdrive Pulley
FastFabs V2 Header, 1.75 stepped to 1.875" primaries - OPEN, no exhaust, nothing.
AFC NEO
stock head,
i was using my custom 96 sohc nitrous pcm. it has all emissions removed, fairly soft timing, & a 7700 rpm limiter.
*his dohc pcm in the car died.

**in a nutshell, a 2.4 that is rated at 150/150 at the crank from the factory, 9.4:1, they put down around 130/130.
it now has roughly 10.9:1 compression, header, intake, cams, pulley, cam gears, and a 3mm bigger t-b.

12 pulls total.

WHP comparison from 2nd pull to last pull, the 12th.
1st pull to get the motor to full temp since he races in 20+ min races.
i sacrificed some midrange for significantly better topend.

strongest pull before doing a bunch of back to back pulls for fuel cleanup

That thing looks mighty bumpy considering smoothing is on five...

10 wheel horsepower over what its rated at from the factory with all those mods??? Maybe it needs an exhaust?

He did pick up 27hp @ 7k rpm.

Are these motors usually that unresponsive to mods?
Yeah maybe the cars just don't make power, that just seems very very low for the displacement and everything but I am not familiar with the 2.4's naturally aspriated.

stock intake manifold, unported head, and small throttle body hurt it.
the motors have lots of stroke (101mm), making topend is hard.
bigger cams would significantly change peak whp, but sacrifice power below 5500 rpm.
the cams aren't that big, probably 4-5 grinds that are bigger that could make another 30-40 whp without changing anything else.

the bumpiness is from not having a merge collector, dump collectors don't work well with open header.
a 2 foot long pipe or so would have probably helped.
also only tuning with an afc neo, so stuck with the oem timing map.

i'll throw up an overlay with a near stock 2.4, they are pretty pathetic from the factory.

45 whp over stock, look at the percentage gains.
you are starting at 130 or so whp, 45 whp is a 34% gain.

the near stock one had underdrive pulley, intake, same 52mm t-b, shorty header, muffler, and lightly ported intake manifold.

the power gains are primarily from the increase in compression, better header, and cams.
a majority of that is the cams themselves.
my old 2.4 from 2003, overlaid with the project car and stock'ish setup.
mine had every part possible but high compression bottom end.

My mistake, for some reason I thought the first graph was vs. stock.

Those are some nice gains, but it also serves to remind me why I prefer big V8's. Lol
Ahhh I thought the first graph was vs stock too.

Nicely done dave.

Looks good. I really need power. 107whp FTL

Do you have any dynos from your old red car?
here is before i changed around the intake manifold:
untuned vs tuned.
car basically has intake, muffler, pulley, 3mm bigger throttl body, cleaned up intake manifold, head decked 0.020, cam gears, s-afc,

a stock 2.0 dohc neon makes 114-120 whp and 114-120 tq.

i swapped part of the intake manifold and got hammered by SAE correction factor adjustment for humidity which made the chart useless for comparison purposes, basically showed zero gains, but i promise it is faster.
