One lap at RRR...
http://www.youtube.com/CagleRacing#p/a/u/0/Y3ICbrlvS2E
I volunteered as a course worker on a Saturday and drove PDX novice class the following day. The video was made while I drove a 55 mph lap during lunch break on Saturday. You can tell that I wasn't driving the line and held the camera in one hand while driving. Nice thing about the video is that you can study the track at a slower pace.
PDX novice is a great way to get started with track events. You supply the car and SCCA supplies a driving instructor. Volunteering gives back to the SCCA and gives you a different perspective of the event. The drivers truly appreciate the course workers.
If you've never driven on a race track, this is a very cost effective way to try it out. You won't regret the experience.
Car prep...
Google search to find advice that best matches your car & its current condition
Install fresh brake pads -- Hawk Performance is what I use
Replace your brake fluid -- I like ATE Super Blue & ATE TYP 200 Amber
Cheers,
Steven Cagle
Just two things to add...
#1. The Southern Driver is sponsoring the event!
#2. If you are interested in running the Time Trial, let me know. I serve as a Chief Time Trial Steward and I would be glad to help you get a log book and get your license. I also am the Keeper of the Second Gear program where we (CCR) can loan you Nomex suit and gloves, shoes and maybe set of belts so you can run and decide if you want to continue before you buy all gear. I have a good assortment of sizes and your car may be closer to legal than you think.
Hope some of you will take advantage of the work a day / get a free PDX the following day program. Good accommodations, food and ...I'm hearing that at party saturday night we'll have a RC competition and some Forza 3 competition on Big Screen.

You don't need a roll bar for a PDX if your car is a hard top, right? (So I could do this in the fall?)
"You don't need a roll bar for a PDX if your car is a hard top, right?"
That is correct. I was allowed to remove the roof panel from my Corvette, which gave better air circulation on a very hot August day and gave me some needed head room while wearing my helmet. For PDX, Snell M/C helmets are approved.
PDX events typically require long pants, so bring them. When I drove, it was so hot they allowed shorts because the risk of heat exhaustion was higher than usual.
Correct - hard tops are permitted.
Long sleeves and long pants are required for PDX, and a Snell M95 helmet or higher. Other than that, if your car can pass a slightly-more-rigorous-than-autocross tech inspection, it can run in a PDX.
I know you guys have an autocross on the 17th... if you want to make a 2-day weekend of it, though, we do offer 1-day PDX rates. Hope some of you can join us!
Dangit why does the next summer auto-x have to be on the same weekend! Well if we end up cancelling it, I know where I will be.
Ted how soon do you have to know, I may take you up on the Time Trial offer if I am there...

A week before but...I think we can work with less. Let me know how it's looking and what you need. Be glad to have you with us.

Theres a PDX at road atlanta that same weekend that Im probably going to do. Im surprised they scheduled that like that

The PDX at Road Atlanta is Sunday-only and only lasts 2.5 hours for all groups. It's a great event and the Atlanta guys do a good job, but it's just one part of a bigger road race weekend, and a somewhat different animal from a full 2-day PDX weekend.
Nonetheless, we're not thrilled with the idea of being on the same weekend, but track date availability being what it is, we have to take what we can get.
Hey, guys, I noticed that the July 17 autocross got canceled. I'm really sorry to hear about that. I know it's apples and oranges, but if any of you are interested in getting out on track, we still have several open slots in both the Novice and Advanced PDX groups that weekend.
We also have a "work/drive" program where if you volunteer on one day of the weekend, you can drive on the other for $85 (half-price of the one-day rate).
PDX Novice registraton deadline has been extended to Monday, July 12.
Also, we are still in need of volunteers for this event. Volunteers will receive:
- Breakfast and lunch both days
- Free beer (assuming you're of age, of course

) and dinner at the Saturday night social
- Choice of hotel room (double occupancy), $25 gas card or free SCR autocross entry for each day worked
Experience is not necessary - if you've never done this before, we will pair you with a seasoned volunteer who will train you on the job.
Again, all volunteers need to register at
http://www.scsportscar.com/roebling as soon as possible, so we can get an accurate count for hotel rooms, lunches, etc.
Thanks!

The last thing I want to do after working a track weekend is autocross, is there anyway to get credit for a PDX aside from the work one day drive the next thing?

Hey, you don't have to cash in the free autocrosses (2 - one for each day) right away... it's a discount code that's good any time.
You can get a $50 discount ($25 per day) off future PDX's if you just work the one weekend. That $50 CAN be combined with a future work/drive entry as well (to make a future $35 PDX).
Man I wish I could do this, even with the autocross being cancelled! But I just don't have the funds at the moment, have a good time for me!
