How do you figure? The video was released by Ford. "2011 Shelby GT500 coupe equipped with the new aluminum 550hp, 5.4-liter engine and the optional SVT Performance Package"
You can tell if a car looks stock by looking at its interior?
Looked and sounded bone stock to me. West course looks crazy fun.
WOW. That guy sucked!!! hahah If he's the best driver that Ford's got, sign me up man. I can take him easily. He looked like he had no clue how to shift gears and he never let the car's outrageous amounts of torque work for him. That said, despite his HORRIBLE (but brave I'll give him that) driving, that time was quicker than Car and Driver got out of an Audi R8 V10 on the same course.

WOW (for the car this time

Really? I thought he looked pretty good considering he was running a road course, and not an auto-x. His shifts may not be lightning quick but they are deliberate and hit home every time, not to mention he hits the s-curves at around 2:20 perfectly! And the rest of the time he is driving the hell out of that Mustang...sometimes thats just how you have to handle some cars to get the best times out of them.
Steve... I'm really sorry man... but I'm calling you out on this one.
That guy did just fine...
"let the car's outrageous amounts of torque work for him"... so I'm assuming never letting the car light the tires up in smoke on corner exit is the slow way to do it? Stop being a "redneck" Mustang owner. (Note the functioning Adjective. Not all mustang owners are rednecks)
Once again... I'm sorry... but you are the PR guy for the club and I won't sit around while some poser talks smack about a Ford Test driver that has experience with the Ford GT and LeMan's Vipers.
I'm pretty sure he would stomp you like no other. Looks like he has driven VIR at least once or twice before...
PS most of the track guys that I know don't "powershift" a RWD constantly... especially mid corner... If i have to explain why then well... you're past due for some studying.
I suggest ME423 Vehicle Dynamics.

yea it sounded stock, i meant it had a racing seat, racing harness, aftermarket steering wheel, and stuff taken off the console. i'd wager it had something other than all-season rubber on it. in competitions like lightning lap they have them all stock and see what they can really do from the dealership floor (or wreck in the case of the nismo370 last year haha). i didn't mean that to sound as harsh as it did, just looks like whoever was setting up the car tweaked it a little for it's job, so i wouldn't say anyone who goes out and buy's an '11 gt500 can go duplicate this time immediately with out a few mods (and yes i realize the interior stuff has nothing to do with performance specifically)

I know! That seat has to be at least 10 pounds lighter than the stock one!!! Cheater!
What is this, an SCCA forum?
Also, looks like a stock wheel and complete dash with a nav system to me.

The guy driving did a good job. Taking the climbing esses as hard as he did was really good. Also I think he was just getting used to the gearing with his shifting because after about a minute he was fine. Driving a Mazdaspeed miata is the same way.
Judging from his speed through south bend and compairing it to what we did through there in our racecar I would say that the car was stock. The dampening seemed a little soft for the point of an SVT though IMO. Either way it was still a good lap, and shows how power means a lot on a track.

I just noticed that he was on the limiter a good bit when he was leaving corners and that he was shifting in the middle of corners where it didn't seem necessary. It seemed to upset the car in a couple of spots. I've never been to VIR and wouldn't know that much about how to get around, I was just saying that it didn't seem to be very smooth or controlled. I was only offering an opinion. Looking again, what I should have said was that was a bad lap, not driver. He left at least 2 seconds on the track. All that said, I'm not a great driver and I never claimed to be. What I was was stupid and I'm sorry. I would get killed by him. I guess that I am a poseur in many ways and that I have no business saying anything, since I'm useless at everything.
Definitely stock interior with the exception of the seat and harness (from what we can see). The car comes from the factory with Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar G: 2 tires (if you think they're going to sell a 550hp $50,000 car with all-season tires... lol)
No need to get all bent out of shape, steve. You were wrong and Josh called you out. Sure, the guy made some mistakes but keeping the rear end in check going up those esses (look at it slide out 1:05, going 110mph) definitely takes skill. You said you thought you could take him, but you can't even beat me in my 15 year old rustang xD
As with the stone and the blade... We all sharpen one another.
No need to be all depressed...

I just can't read this statement seriously when a guy is sticking his middle finger up at me only inches away...
