Ok guys, I'm due for a timing belt change on the Si and I've gone ahead and gotten quotes from a few places since this is a critical item that I don't have the tools for and haven't done before. On my last car, it was covered by my parents luckily, and it was even at a dealership for less than 500. I'd have to look, but I'm pretty sure it's 475 or so. Remember, that was a single cam (D16YCool. This car if you didn't know is a dual cam, b16a2. The quote from an independent. 618. Dealer. 620 +tax. Parts are roughly double in price quoted than what I can order from an actual dealership online. 150 or so online.

So clearly this seems way over what it should be and as a result, I'm thinking about doing it myself at a friends transmission shop in anderson. He has a lift, air tools etc. and I can buy any other assorted tools that might be required. Anyone have specific advice that has done this before on this motor/car?

Btw, I'm also considering replacing the clutch since it's roughly 85k or so on the car and I'm a little worried the many launches from autoxing might put me in the sub 100k range for mileage I get out of it. Then again, it might not be required. Just a thought though.
Can't help you with your model, but I have changed a couple on different cars. Pretty straight-forward work, though some cars you really need to lift/drop the engine to reach everything. We changed the timing belt on a beater Corolla once without lifting the motor out, but it took some busted knuckles, swearing, and... modification... to some of the plastic covers.
Ross, It's a straight forward job. A lift will help, but is not necessary.

The water pump is driven by the timing belt, so swap it out while you're in there.

The worst part is getting the crank pulley off.

You'll need to remove both the upper and lower drivers side engine mounts to remove the belts, so have a jack handy.

If you need us, we change all three drive belts, the water pump and the timing belt for $350, parts and labor.
That is a damn good price form TDC.

But, if you insist on doing it yourself, I have tools and a lift.
^ Thanks. We do a few a week, so we are pretty efficient with them.
get a cam locking too if you can.
Cam lock isn't really needed on a B series engine. We have them, but we never use them on Hondas.
