In case anyone's interested here's the official volunteer invite:
Join us the weekend of June 12-13 as we gather together in the North Carolina mountains for the 4th running of the Wolf Ridge Hillclimb. This year promises to be one of the best in some time with some familiar faces returning to test themselves against the hill: I expect some exciting racing. As always, Central Carolinas Region SCCA will roll out the red carpet-if you only volunteer for one event per year, make it this one. Amenities for volunteers include:
Easy access to the event site-just a few minutes off I-26.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner Saturday; breakfast and lunch on Sunday.
Amazing mountain scenery
Exciting hillclimb action, yet low-stress hillclimb atmosphere: IDEAL event for the first-time worker.
Worker goodie giveaways
Race staff lodging *on-site* to die for: I kid you not. The stories you have heard all all true. Bring swimwear-both for the hot tubs and the heated indoor pool.
WE WILL ROTATE WORKER STATIONS- we began this practice last year and frankly should have been doing it years ago. Over the course of the weekend you will get 4 different perspectives on the event. Nobody will be stuck in one place for the duration. (Does not apply to start or grid because of the specialized nature of their work).
The official event website will provide a registration link Real Soon Now, and in order to help the hard-working event chair it would be super-helpful if you can PLEASE let us know about attendance as far in advance as possible. If you have preferred roommates let us know (4 per cabin minimum, and more than 4 would be of help. The cabins can easily accommodate more). Even if you have already responded in person or on Facebook please sign up online (as soon as the link goes live).
If you've never done this before, bring sturdy shoes, some rain gear, insect repellant, a good pair of gloves, folding chair, etc--things to help you stay comfortable outside for the day. No red jackets or umbrellas, please. While the facility is beautiful, you would be wise to stop for supplies and fuel BEFORE going up the mountain: A *quick run into town* is not impossible, but you'll have a better experience if you bring what you need with you.
Please do not hesitate to forward this as you see fit, or contact me (Donald Drennon <ddrennon@gmail.com>) if you have any questions.
Looking forward to seeing y'all in the mountains
