Hey, guys... I know NASA's race at CMP is the same weekend, but I did just want to put this out there, for anyone not planning to work or drive at CMP...

We'll be back at the Michelin Proving Grounds in Laurens, SC ("The Black Lake") twice again this year. The usual 2-day event is scheduled for later on this June, but we've also got a one-day event coming on Saturday, May 1. If you've never driven the Black Lake, it's 1400 ft. x 400 ft. of perfect, smooth, flat asphalt... it's really an awesome place to run!

We will be doing a Friday evening registration/tech at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Clinton, SC from 7:00 - 9:30 PM. We also have some special event hotel rates:

As I wont be able to do CMP I'm going to try for this, anyone want to split a hotel with me?

I'm be going, but I'll drive up there that morning since it isn't far from me.

I'm registered. Black Lake is my favorite AX site! Thank you SCR-SCCA and Michelin for this opportunity!

If I wasn't attending the Lincoln, NE ProSolo I'd be there. The Black Lake is the closest good autox site to my house, it's a lot closer than Lincoln but I have to attend 2 ProSolo's to qualify for the Finale.

i'm saving up now. hopefully we'll be able to get CC1 out there.

I wish I could make it to this one, but this is the last chance to see all of the track kids before they go home for the summer, and I wanted to do CMP as my first HPDE (and for FREE!) SO I will be at CMP May 1st and 2nd. I'll come back later with a vengeance in STX, show everyone who's boss with a few upgrades done.

Michelin is, imho THE BEST autocross site I've been to, and I've autocrossed with SCR, CCR, ACR and CSCC before. Just perfectly smooth flat asphalt forever... makes for a HIGH SPEED course, one of the very few courses where I've actually had to get into 3rd gear in my car. It's quite incredible, and the number of cars/quality of cars that show up to the event are just NUTS. Seriously some scary cars and drivers.

Ever watch the 24 Hour Rolex races on Speed channel? I met Leh Keen at Michelin last year at that autocross, and he's DEFINITELY as quick as he looks on TV, even through an autocross course in one of his DD cars (this one was a pretty well modified white E92 M3).

Why is the first weekend in May always such a popular weekend for EVERYONE to schedule their events on?

I'll be at VIR for a race weekend but was really looking forward to trying Black Lake this year in my new to me Miata. Damn!

^^ you'll just have to hold out for the two day event later in the summer. that's just terrible.... haha

Yeah... it's a busy weekend. There's a lot going on out there... our main priorities are staying off other local clubs' autocross weekends, and other SCCA dates at CMP and Roebling... and Mother's Day. Plus we have to schedule Black Lake during a time of year where it stays lighter outside longer, or we'll never get through the day.

That said... I wish we hadn't conflicted with NASA at CMP. We'll take a closer look at that for next year. Anyone that we miss this time... please catch up with us when we come back in June!

It's a government conspiracy to drive a need for mandatory cloning. Big employers have been lobbying for this ever since they cloned that sheep. They hook you on the idea of being able to attend every car event, but on workdays they want you and your mini-me to work for a single paycheck. Write congress and tell them "no" to cloning!

It's either that or the folks planning just aren't coordinating with each other. We need to get them talking.

There's just a lot of motorsports activities happening these days. Not too hard to book up almost every weekend! I don't know how I'll ever keep a car running for all of it
