Well, this isn't as much of a suggestion as it is a request. I am looking for two people who would like to learn to use our timing system and run timing with me during the autocrosses. You need to be willing to run in groups 1 and 3 (each of you in a different group) so that we've got all 3 groups covered for timing.
I will hang on to all of the equipment and the computer and make sure everything gets to the lot but I also need my volunteers to get the timing boxes set up at start and finish and help me make sure they are working before our first run group.
If more than two people are interested, it never hurts to have someone on backup. Things come up and sometimes you have to miss an event. If interested, let me know!

Ken's right. It pretty much runs itself. I just need help since I can't run registration and then time all three groups myself. I like to drive too
I almost always run in group 1, so I don't mind helping out.
I did it last time, so i can do it again...

When you set up your training session, come up with a list of the common scenarios that always pop up...wrong number/codriver number entered, loss of timing lights, DNF, cones, time recorded for wrong car, loss of power, people like me appearing and offering advice without really knowing what they're talking about, etc. When the system is working the job is easy, it's just those few things that surprise you that make it a problem. If you're familiar with the system, you just fix it and move on.
Oh good points Shaun. I had been thinking of some of those but since I've only run timing once or twice, not all of those things have happened to me. At this point all I know about loss of timing lights or power is that we stop the whole thing, reboot and try to get it running again
I think meeting during the week before the next AX would be a good idea so we're all ready to go for Saturday.
Shaun, Rob and I taught ourselves how to use it with the manual and the system just rigged up in the living room of one of our apartments. Amazing how things evolve and get better over time

No problem. A manual is a great idea... something like a brief version of the manual that comes with the software (I don't even know if that's in the box). I can write up something after I've used it a few more times.
To those of you who were interested in helping with Timing, I'd like to have a short meeting this week where we can go over the basics of how the software works. I'm in the lab all day, so it would have to be after 5. Please reply to this with which evenings you'd be available this week. I'm pretty much open except for Weds. at 9.
I will also put together a quick guide for using the program and running timing that we can have at the event so you don't need to feel like you have to memorize everything the first time!
