So basically I am thinking on increasing the size of the center bore on one of the sets of miata wheels I have from 54.1mm to 56.1mm so I can put them on Jaimie's car. Anyone think there are going to be stress issues with this? They are an aluminum alloy wheels

Is the center bore what helps to align the rim when mounting onto the hub? Do you know the od of the mounting face of the rim?

I am not worried about that because the wheels are lug centric.

Is the Civic hub lug-centric by design?

You're the M.E., shouldn't you be able to tell if the material to be removed is in a critical spot? That said, I'd probably go for it. At AX speeds I can't imagine a catastrophic failure being bad enough to worry about. Wheels come off all the time (not torqued, etc.). If you're worried about it, check them carefully for cracks after each use.

I can't imagine that you would have trouble selling/trading those for wheels that are right

I have ran the civic and my Miata with wheels with the generic center bore without centering rings for a very long time. I know that won't be the problem. I don't imagine that spot for material removal being much of an issue, but it is always good to get a second opinion. I have also been trying to sell the 2nd set of miata wheels many times but since the center bore is smaller than most cars they are hard to sell. They only fit miata's, 3rd gen MR-2's, toyota tercels, and the mighty ford festiva.

I'd want to see the inside of the wheel before I made a call on that. I've never seen an OE Miata wheel off the car so I don't know what they look like on the back side.

it's fairly common to do to the hollow, 7 spoke, miata wheels to use them on honda's, etc.

I have the solid spoke as well.

Changed my mind about boring them out. Looked up what the back of the wheels look like and there isn't very much material at the center bore.
